Robinson nabs 300th career steal as @OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball storms past Purchase, 100-36

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball won their fifth-straight game with Saturday's 100-36 wire-to-wire Skyline Conference victory over the visiting Purchase College Panthers (2-9, 1-4 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.

Old Westbury (9-2, 3-2 Skyline) jumped ahead first and never looked back after Tyra Bellings landed a  3-pointer 15 seconds in for the early lead.  Charlotte Renker laid-in two points to spark Old Westbury's 20-4 run to close out the final 6:28 of the opening period for the 29-11 advantage.  Ruth Vargas' layup with 8:41 left in the half ignited a 20-4 run to give Old Westbury a 35-point lead (53-18) heading into intermission.  With 5:58 remaining in the second quarter, Jasmine Robinson came away with her fifth theft of the game to register steal No. 300 of her career. 

Old Westbury used a 14-2 run from 8:02 to 4:03 to go up 67-23 before building a 49-point cushion (78-29) at the end of three quarters of play.  Imani Lariosa opened the fourth-quarter scoring with a jumper to make it a 51-point game (80-29) with 9:11 remaining.  Old Westbury's maintained a 60-point lead for the final 4:49 as Vargas' layup with 1:22 left extended the advantage to a game-high 67-point cushion (98-31). 

Renker poured in a career-high 21 points (10-of-14 FG) to lead all scorers in addition to adding nine rebounds and four steals (tied career-high) to her statline.  Robinson followed with 16 points (7-of-14 FG), nine assists (career-high) and six steals.  Vargas combined 15 points and 14 rebounds (tied career-high) to register her sixth-career double-double.  Monique Joseph chipped in with 12 points and four steals.

Frances Minaya's 14 points paced Purchase followed 13 from Kayla Ortiz. 

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 50 percent (44-of-88) from the field, 27.3 percent (3-of-11) from three-point range and 64.3 percent (9-of-14) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Purchase hit on 26 percent (13-of-50) from the floor, 18.2 percent (6-of-33) from beyond the arc and 40 percent (4-of-10) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 68-17, scoring 27 second-chance points off 33 offensive rebounds.  The hosts also held the advantage in steals (20-6) and assists (20-6) while converting 27 Purchase turnovers into 38 points.
