Old Westbury continues Skyline Conference play on the road January 14 at Maritime

FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball fell short after a late push in Saturday's 57-56 Skyline Conference road setback to the Farmingdale State College Rams (7-5, 3-0 Skyline) inside Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.

Old Westbury (5-7, 2-2 Skyline) grabbed its first lead of the game at 6:36 in with a layup by Brandon Thomson for an 8-7 advantage.  The Rams then scored five-straight points to take a 12-8 lead off Matthew Graham's 3-pointer with 11:52 left in the opening half.  Trailing 14-10, Old Westbury used a 13-2 run capped by Preston Powell's 3-ball at 1:23 to make it a 23-16 game for the Panthers' largest lead of the game.  Farmingdale State scored six-unanswered points to close out the final 57 seconds to head into intermission down 23-22.

With 18:01 showing on the second-half clock, the Rams took the lead for good with a layup by George Refenstahl to make it a 26-25 game.  Farmingdale State extended its largest lead of the game to 10 (43-33) with 10:08 remaining off a Ryan Kennedy 3-pointer.  Old Westbury trimmed its deficit to two (43-41) keyed by six points from Terrin Roland as part of the Panthers' 8-0 run from 9:27 to 7:15.  The Panthers pulled within one (49-48) after Roland netted a pair of free-throws with 4:50 left.  Farmingdale State went back up by six (54-48) before the Panthers sliced the deficit to one (54-53) off Roland's 3-pointer.  With 13 seconds remaining, Graham sank the game-winning free-throws to secure the Rams' win.  Down 57-53, Jamail Stanley sank a 3-pointer with three seconds left to settle the 57-56 final.

Stanley finished with 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals and two blocks to pace the Panthers.  Roland scored a career-high 13 points off the bench to go along with five rebounds, three assists and two steals.  Lylle Ryals chipped in with 11 points.

Graham scored a game-high 15 points (3-of-6 3FG) to lead Farmingdale State.  Riefenstahl swatted two shots and added a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double to his statline.  Ali Mableton contributed 10 points while Weldon Irvine grabbed 13 rebounds.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 34.5 percent (19-of-55) from the field, 23.1 percent (6-of-26) from three-point range and 54.5 percent (12-of-22) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Farmingdale State hit on 32.8 percent (19-of-58) from the floor, 31.3 percent (5-of-16) from beyond the arc and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the charity stripe.  The Rams won the boards battle, 50-35, scoring seven second-chance points off 17 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury held the advantage in blocks (5-3) and steals (11-9) while converting 20 Ram turnovers into 20 points.
