@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball blitz Farmingdale State, win 66-46

Old Westbury compiled its sixth-straight win with Monday’s Skyline Conference triumph on the road

FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball dominated play Monday evening on the road to collect a 66-46 wire-to-wire Skyline Conference win from the Farmingdale State College Rams (5-5, 4-2 Skyline) inside Walter A. Lynch Sports Center.

Both teams combined to miss 14 attempts from the field until Ruth Vargas laid-in the game's first-two points to give Old Westbury (10-2, 4-2 Skyline) the early advantage 3:18 in.  After misfiring on 12 shots, Farmingdale State tied the game (2-2) with 5:10 left in the first period off a jumper by Liz Durchhalter.  Old Westbury scored five-unanswered points to close out the opening quarter capped by Jasmine Robinson's jumper that doubled the Panthers' advantage to make it a 14-7 contest.  The Panthers took their first double-digit lead with 7:07 remaining in the half after Robinson scored five-straight points to increase the cushion to 10 (19-9).  She later closed out the first-half scoring with a layup to send a 28-14 game into intermission. 

Farmingdale State trimmed its deficit to nine (38-29) with 3:58 showing on the third-quarter clock before Tori Bellings sank a pair of free-throws to give Old Westbury a double-digit lead for the final 13:40 of play.  The Panthers closed out the final 6:36 with a 14-5 run to extend the lead to a game-high 20 points (66-46). 

Robinson paced Old Westbury with five steals and scored 13 of her game-high 19 points (8-of-16 FG) in the first-half.  Charlotte Renker followed with 13 points, 13 rebounds, four assists (career-high) and two blocks to register her fifth double-double of the season.  Bellings used 10 points (4-of-4 FT) and 10 rebounds to produce her first-career double-double.  Ruth Vargas chipped in with eight points, 12 rebounds and two steals while Monique Joseph pulled-down 11 boards and dished out a career-best eight assists.

Tyra Harrison totaled 18 points (3-of-6 3FG), five assists and two steals to lead Farmingdale State.  Kaelyn Ward added eight points, 10 rebounds and four steals. 
 
In the end, Old Westbury connected on 33.8 percent (22-of-65) from the field, 11.1 percent (1-of-9) from three-point range and 70 percent (21-of-30) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Farmingdale State hit on 18.5 percent (15-of-81) from the floor, 16.7 percent (6-of-36) from beyond the arc and 45.5 percent (10-of-22) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 67-51, while the Rams scored 15 second-chance points off 22 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers also held the advantage in blocks (4-3) and assists (17-8) while converting 16 Farmingdale State turnovers into 12 points.
