@OW_Panthers Men's Soccer collides with St. Joseph’s (L.I.) in overtime thriller

Old Westbury opens its five-game homestand Saturday (Oct. 7) with a Skyline Conference showdown versus Mount Saint Mary College

PATCHOGUE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer dropped a 2-1 Skyline Conference overtime road decision to the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (3-5-1, 3-0-1 Skyline) Tuesday evening from Danzi Stadium in Patchogue, New York.  The loss sent Old Westbury's overtime record to 0-2-2 on the season.

St. Joseph's put one past Old Westbury (4-3-1, 0-1-1) goalie Mike Warren (4-3-1) to take the lead in the 31st minute as Damian Duda finished off a feed from Alex Tarach to make it a 1-1 game.  Despite trailing at intermission, Old Westbury outshot the Golden Eagles 9-8 in the opening stanza.  

Old Westbury broke through in the 66th minute to tie the game off a penalty kick by Jorey Garcia.  Garcia scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season on Golden Eagle goalie Steven Deng (3-2-1).  Old Westbury held the 7-5 second-half advantage in shots to send a 1-1 game into overtime.  

With less than three minutes left in the first overtime, Rayneri Ruiz put away the game-winning goal in the 98th minute off a rebound to lead St. Joseph's to victory.  

Warren turned away 11 shots to register his second-highest save total of the season in defeat for Old Westbury.  Deng's five saves secured the Golden Eagles' win.

In the end, both teams attempted 17 shots while St. Joseph's held the edge in shots on goal (13-6) and corner kicks (6-5).  

MOUNT SAINT MARY COLLEGE KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury will open its five-game homestand Saturday (Oct. 7) with a Skyline Conference showdown versus the Mount Saint Mary College Knights at 2 p.m. from Panther Park.
