@OW_Panthers’ Women's Soccer battles St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn) on Senior Day

Old Westbury remains at home Wednesday (Oct. 11) to close out its two-game homestand against Lehman College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer were unable to overcome an early deficit en route to dropping a 3-2 Senior Day decision at home Saturday afternoon to the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (6-4-0, 2-2-0 Skyline) in Skyline Conference action from Panther Park.

Prior to opening kickoff, seniors Tosin Akinfeleye (2014-17) and Lucia Mejia (2013-17) were honored with Old Westbury's annual Senior Day Ceremony for their dedication to SUNY Old Westbury Athletics.

St. Joseph's broke the scoring ice 27:19 in Deserae Sequeira finished Rebecca Bollmann's feed to blast a shot past Panther goalie Alexa Higgins (1-9-0) for the early 1-0 lead.  Deserae Sequeira later found Anisah Molic in the 38th minute to double the Bears advantage for two-goal cushion at intermission.

Old Westbury opened the second-half scoring in the 51st minute as Shauna Henderson found the back of the net to slice Old Westbury's deficit in half.  Moments later, Nicole Jones sent a pass to Henderson to put away the equalizer past Bears' netminder Lauren Quesada (6-3-0) in the 57th minute.  Sequeira responded in the 64th minute with the game-winning goal for St. Joseph's to settle the 3-2 final.

Higgins made seven saves in defeat for Old Westbury while Quesada stopped five shots to earn the victory for St. Joseph's.

In the end, the Bears held the advantage in shots (13-10) and shots on goal (10-7) while the Panthers held the edge in corner kicks (4-1).

LEHMAN COLLEGE LIGHTNING UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues its two-game homestand next Wednesday (Oct. 11) with a non-conference showdown versus the Lehman College Lightning (5-6-1) at 4 p.m. from Panther Park.
