NEWBURGH, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball fell behind early and were unable to recover Sunday in their road opener with an 81-63 Skyline Conference setback to the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (3-3, 3-1 Skyline) inside Kaplan Center in Newburgh, New York.

Old Westbury (3-3, 2-1 Skyline) held its lone lead of the game 1:45 in as Terrin Roland stuck a jumper for the 2-1 advantage.  From there, Gerard Nocera connected on a 3-pointer 19 second later to give Mount Saint Mary the lead for good as the Knights played ahead for the final 37:54.  Old Westbury went down by 10 with 7:45 left and trailed 37-26 at intermission.

Stanley Baker opened the second-half scoring to help Old Westbury slice its deficit to nine (37-28) with 19:29 remaining.  Mount Saint Mary answered with an 8-0 run to build a 17-point lead (45-28).  Trailing 63-44, Old Westbury used a 14-5 spurt to pull within 10 (68-58) before the Knights put the game away with a 13-2 run to take a 21-point lead (81-60) with 20 seconds showing on the second-half clock.

Alan McDonald came off the bench to lead Old Westbury with 17 points (5-of-9 FG) and nine rebounds.  Julieon Boney followed with 13 points (5-of-9 FG).  Roland and Michael Samuel both chipped in eight points.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 40 percent (25-of-55) from the field, 26.3 percent (5-of-19) from 3-point range and 60.9 percent (14-of-23) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Mount Saint Mary hit on 51.9 percent (27-of-52) from the floor, 45.8 percent (11-of-24) from beyond the arc and 80 percent (16-of-20) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 35-30, while scoring 11 second-chance points off 15 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers converted 13 Knight turnovers into 16 points.  Both teams were even in fastbreak points at two a piece.  Mount Saint Mary held the advantage in assists (15-7), points in the paint (28-24) while Old Westbury led the way in blocks (1-0), steals (6-5) and bench points (31-19)
