Old Westbury returns to the court Saturday (Dec. 30) against Lancaster Bible College in the St. John Fisher College Tournament consolation game

PITTSFORD, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball were outscored by 18 points (44-26) in the second half Friday evening against the St. John Fisher College Cardinals (4-4) to drop an 80-58 non-conference decision from Manning & Napier Varsity Gymnasium in Pittsford, New York.  Old Westbury (3-5) will now face Lancaster Bible College (7-3) in Saturday's consolation game of the St. John Fisher Tournament.   

Trailing 18-17, Old Westbury put together an 8-0 run started at 10:10 with Michael Samuel assisting on back-to-back 3-pointers by Aaron Jackson and Brandon Thomson to grab a 25-18 lead.  Moments later, Gaetham Fils-Aime connected from downtown to put Old Westbury up eight (28-20) for their largest lead of the game with 6:55 remaining in the first half.  St. John Fisher used a 16-4 run over the final 6:14 to take a 36-32 lead into intermission. James Leone's layup with 2:39 left gave the Cardinals the lead for good.    

The Cardinals put the game away with a 16-1 run to build an 18-point cushion (58-40) with 11:09 showing on the second-half clock.  St. John Fisher grew its lead to a game-high 24 points (74-50) with a Ryan Henderson dunk with 5:30 left.  Khalil Wilson's 3-pointer at 4:52 trimmed Old Westbury's deficit to 19 (74-55) before the Cardinals played with a 20-point lead for the final 4:06.  

Julieon Boney scored a team-leading 13 points (5-of-10 FG) to pace Old Westbury.  Roland followed with 11 points, four assists and two steals.  Stanley Baker chipped in with seven rebounds and three blocks.  Alan McDonald grabbed seven rebounds while Preston Powell nabbed three steals.

Tyler English finished with a game-high 15 points (5-of-8 FG, 5-of-6 FT) to lead St. John Fisher.  Sammy Robinson contributed 14 points and four steals while Tyler Farrell added 11 points (4-of-8 FG, 3-of-4 FT) and eight rebounds.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 36.8 percent (21-of-57) from the field, 36.4 percent (8-of-22) from 3-point range and 57.1 percent (8-of-14) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, St. John Fisher hit on 44.3 percent (31-of-70) from the floor, 35 percent (7-of-20) from beyond the arc and 73.3 percent (11-of-15) from the charity stripe.  St. John Fisher won the boards battle, 45-38, while scoring 16 second-chance points off 13 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury held the advantage in blocks (5-4) while St. John Fisher led the way in assists (14-9), steals (14-10), points in the paint (38-18) and bench points (33-22).  The Panthers converted 19 Cardinal turnovers into 19 points.

LANCASTER BIBLE COLLEGE CHARGERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury concludes the St. John Fisher College tournament Saturday (Dec. 30) with a non-conference showdown against the Lancaster Bible College Chargers at 1 p.m. inside Manning & Napier Varsity Gymnasium.
