Old Westbury returns home next Tuesday (Jan. 2) to open the 2018 calendar year with a Skyline Conference showdown against College of Mount Saint Vincent

PITTSFORD, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball closed out the 2017 calendar year Saturday afternoon with a 97-81 non-conference setback to the Lancaster Bible College Chargers (8-3) in the consolation game of the Woodcliff Hotel & Spa Tournament hosted by St. John Fisher College from Manning & Napier Varsity Gymnasium in Pittsford, New York.

An evenly played first half featured 13 lead changes with both teams shooting better than 50 percent from the floor and 80 percent from the free-throw line.  Old Westbury (3-6) took an early 2-0 lead off a layup by Yancy Ulysse 34 seconds in.  Lancaster Bible put together a 5-0 run midway through the half to go up 27-23 with 10:19 remaining.  Old Westbury took its last lead (31-29) with 8:08 remaining as Terrin Roland scored five of the Panthers' next six points to cap a 6-0 spurt.  The Chargers countered with six-straight points of their own to take a 35-31 lead to extend their lead to four.  Moments later, Lancaster Bible rattled off a 13-3 run to build an eight-point advantage (42-34) with 4:46 left.  Alan McDonald scored six of his team-leading 11 first-half points in the final 4:03 to help fuel a late Panther run as the Chargers took a 53-46 lead into intermission.

The Panthers went down by double digits early in the second half as the Chargers used an 11-4 run to construct a 14-point cushion (64-50) with 16:11 remaining.  Old Westbury answered with five-straight points over the next 1:02 to trim its deficit to nine (64-55).  Lancaster Bible's lead blossomed to 15 (73-58) with 10:57 showing on the second-half clock.  Old Westbury pulled within seven points, but were unable to push through as the Chargers played with a double-digit lead for the final 4:43.  Lancaster Bible extended its lead to a game-high 17 points (96-79) with 1:03 remaining.

McDonald scored a career-high 23 points (7-of-15 FG, 9-of-9 FT) off the bench to lead all scorers.  Roland followed with 17 points (7-of-8 FT) and four assists while Julieon Boney added 12 points.  Yancy Ulysse chipped in with nine points and six rebounds as Brandon Thomson nabbed three steals.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 40.3 percent (25-of-62) from the field, 30 percent (6-of-20) from 3-point range and 89.3 percent (25-of-28) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Lancaster Bible hit on 53.8 percent (35-of-65) from the floor, 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (18-of-24) from the charity stripe.  The Chargers won the boards battle, 47-25, while scoring 24 second-chance points off 17 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury held the advantage in steals (6-5) while turning 21 Charger miscues into 25 points.  Lancaster Bible held the advantage in blocks (6-2), assists (22-12), points in the paint (50-32) and bench scoring (39-30).
