@OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball battles Farmingdale State in Skyline showdown

Old Westbury concludes its five-game homestand Thursday (Dec. 7) with a Skyline Conference matchup against SUNY Maritime College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball dropped a 90-73 Skyline Conference home decision Tuesday evening to the Farmingdale State College Rams (4-2, 2-1 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.  

Playing from behind in the early goings, Old Westbury (2-2, 1-1 Skyline) took its first lead off Yancy Ulysse's layup with 14:38 showing on the first-half clock to make it a 12-11 game.  Old Westbury then grabbed a 14-11 advantage 1:29 later for its largest lead of the game as Gaetham Fils-Aime's jumper capped a 6-0 run.  Moments later, Preston Powell gave Old Westbury a 19-18 lead with 8:10 left before Farmingdale State used a 12-4 run to go up by seven (30-23) en route to taking a 32-28 advantage into intermission.

Leading for the final 28:01 of play, Farmingdale State built its lead to a game-high 17 points with 40 seconds remaining.  Old Westbury made a run with a 10-3 spurt to slice its deficit to eight (74-66) with 3:16 left.  Farmingdale State closed out the remaining 1:49 with a double-digit lead.  

Powell netted 18 points (5-of-8 3FG) to lead Old Westbury.  Terrin Roland followed with 17 points (6-of-7 FT), five assists and four steals while Julieon Boney and Alan McDonald (4-of-8 FG) scored 10 points each.

Matthew Graham finished with a game-high 25 points (7-of-13 FG, 5-of-7 3FG, 6-of-6 FT), eight rebounds and three steals to pace Farmingdale State.  George Riefenstahl contributed 22 points (8-of-13 FG, 6-of-6 FT) and 15 rebounds (eight offensive).

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 39.7 percent (25-of-63) from the field, 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from 3-point range and 69.6 percent (16-of-23) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Farmingdale State hit 39.4 percent (26-of-66) from the floor, 50 percent (8-of-16) from beyond the arc and 83.3 percent (30-of-36) from the charity stripe.  Farmingdale State won the boards battle, 56-29, while scoring 30 second-chance points off 21 offensive rebounds. Farmingdale State also led the way in points in the paint (34-24).  The Panthers held the advantage in assists (14-11), steals (10-6), fastbreak points (12-4), blocks (7-3), and points off the bench (21-14).  The Panthers scored 17 points off 18 Ram turnovers.
