(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball is set to advance to their fifth-straight Skyline Conference Championship semifinals after collecting a 69-61 first-round home win over the No. 6 St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (10-16) Tuesday evening inside Clark Athletic Center.  No. 3 Old Westbury (18-8) will travel Thursday (Feb. 23) to Albany, New York to take on the second-seeded The Sage Colleges Gators (16-9) inside Kahl Gymnasium.  Live video and stats for Thursday's semifinal-round matchup will be available by visiting www.oldwestburypanthers.com/coverage.aspx.

In their lone meeting of the season, the Panthers captured a 91-57 home win over Sage on January 28 (Box Score).  Old Westbury and Sage have now met in two of the last three Skyline Conference Championships.

Old Westbury took an early 4-0 lead with back-to-back jumpers by Stephon Odle and Preston Powell 1:12 in.  St. Joseph's answered with a 9-0 run from 17:31 to 12:52 to take a five-point lead (9-4).  Jamail Stanley then scored two of his 15 first-half points with 12:52 left that sparked the Panthers' 11-3 run to pull ahead, 15-11.  Moments later, a layup by Lylle Ryals broke a 15-15 tie to ignite Old Westbury's 13-3 run to push the lead to double-digits (28-18) with 3:56 remaining.  Old Westbury extended its lead to a game-high 11 points (33-22) off Stanley's 3-point play with 1:38 left before taking a 33-27 advantage into intermission.    

After St. Joseph's cut its deficit to three (35-32), Old Westbury used a 10-2 run as Stanley's lay-in pushed the lead back to 11 (45-34) with 14:26 remaining in the second half.  St. Joseph's responded with an 11-1 spurt to trim Old Westbury's lead to one (46-45) with 11:46 left.  The Panthers put together a 15-9 run from 11:23 to 4:51 to extend the lead to seven (61-54).  St. Joseph's chipped away to pull within three (64-61) before Old Westbury knocked down five-straight free-throws in the final 37 seconds to secure the 69-61 win.

Stanley finished with game highs of 26 points (9-of-13 FG, 3-of-3 3FG, 5-of-7 FT), 17 rebounds, four assists and three steals to go with one block to record his 18th double-double of the season (31st career).  Odle followed with 16 points (7-of-13 FG) while Ryals contributed 14 points and eight rebounds.  Luckens Victor tied a career high with four blocks.

Fernando Vazquez paced St. Joseph's with 17 points (6-of-13 FG, 4-of-5 FT).  Dan Nappi chipped in 13 points (4-of-6 3FG) and 10 rebounds while Joe Santoro scored 10 points (3-of-5 FG).

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 43.3 percent (26-of-60) from the field, 30.4 percent (7-of-23) from 3-point range and 55.6 percent (10-of-18) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, St. Joseph's hit on 33.3 percent (19-of-57) from the floor, 33.3 percent (9-of-27) from beyond the arc and 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 45-35, while St. Joseph's scored 10 second-chance points off nine offensive rebounds.  Both teams drew even in steals (4-4) while Old Westbury held the advantage in blocks (7-1) and assists (10-7).  The Golden Eagles scored 17 points off 15 Panther turnovers.
