@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse opens season at Arcadia

Old Westbury returns to action next Saturday (Mar. 4) for its home opener against Kean University

GLENSIDE, PA --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse opened their 2017 season Saturday afternoon on the road with a 21-8 setback to the Arcadia University Knights (2-0) from Jean Lenox West Field in Glenside, Pennsylvania.

Ryan Shannon broke the scoring ice 1:09 in to give Arcadia the early advantage before Natasha Treuman evened the score 6:40 later for Old Westbury's first goal of the season.  Julia Imbert answered at 21:55 with her first of five goals on the day as part of Arcadia's 5-0 run.  Rachel Phillips scored her first-career with 16:48 left in the half to slice Old Westbury's deficit to four (6-2).  Old Westbury later used a 4-1 run with a pair of goals from Treuman and Sara Bey to make it a 9-6 game.  Arcadia responded by rattling off six-unanswered goals to close out the final 7:44 to take a 15-6 advantage into intermission.    

Arcadia outscored Old Westbury 6-2 in the second half as Halle Johnson and Treuman accounted for both Panther goals. 

Treuman finished with four goals on five attempts to go along with five ground balls, two draw controls and two caused turnovers in leading Old Westbury.  Bey followed with two goals and controlled a team-best three draws while Danielle Weir added two draw controls.  LaChaye Allen contributed three caused turnovers and three ground balls on defense.   Ashley Gugliuzzo (0-1) made six saves in defeat for Old Westbury. 

Ryan, Imbert and Allegra Benites each netted five goals to pace the Knights to victory.  Ryan added nine draw controls and two assists while Nicole Hutson finished with three assists and one goal.  Liz Stierle (2-0) stopped four shots to secure Arcadia's win.

KEAN UNIVERSITY COUGARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to action next Saturday (Mar. 4) for its home opener against the Kean University Cougars (0-0) at 12 p.m. inside Panther Park.
