SUNY Old Westbury baseball closed out play at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic Saturday morning with a 5-3 setback to the John Hopkins University Blue Jays (7-2) in Fort Myers, Florida.

Old Westbury (6-5) starter Trey Pizzutello (L, 2-3; 5 IP, 5 H, 5 ER, BB, 3 K) retired his first eight batters faced before allowing a double to Tim Kutcher for the game's initial hit.

Johns Hopkins broke through in the fourth inning with a timely two-out hit as Daniel Albert took Pizzutello deep with a grand slam.

Mike Eberle led off the Blue Jay fifth with a triple and then scored off a sacrifice fly by Brian Lin to make it a 5-0 game.

Opposing Pizzutello was Alex Ross (W, 1-1; 7 IP, H, ER, 3 BB, 12 K), who took a no-hit bid into the eighth inning.  Dean Sheridan led off the frame by cranking his first-career home run over the right field fence to end Old Westbury's offensive drought.

David Hawley and Tommy Ziegen opened the Panthers' ninth with back-to-back singles.  Two batters later, Sheridan lifted a sacrifice fly to right to score Hawley before Kevin Lao doubled home Ziegen to settle the 5-3 final.

Josh Hejka then came on to retire Paul Rapoli and Carlos Balmaceda to register his second save of the season.

NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to the diamond Tuesday (Mar. 21) with a non-conference road matchup against the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (1-5) at 3:30 PM from Thomas M. Gerrity Athletic Complex in Jersey City, New Jersey.
