RIDGEFIELD, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball (8-5, 2-0 Skyline) opened Skyline Conference play Friday morning with 18-7 and 17-0 Skyline Conference road wins to sweep the Yeshiva University Maccabees (0-7, 0-4 Skyline) from Overpeck Park in Ridgefield, New Jersey.

Game 1 (7 Inn.): Old Westbury 18, Yeshiva 7
Tommy Ziegen (3-for-4, 4 RBI, 4 R, BB, SB) broke the scoring ice in the first inning with a one-out triple to plate home Jesse Russo (3-for-4, 3 RBI, 3 R, 2 BB, 3 SB) off Maccabees starter Elan Paul (L, 0-1; 7 IP, 21 H, 18 R, 5 BB, 2 K).  Louis Sileno then followed with a RBI single to double Old Westbury's advantage for its 2-0 lead.

Yeshiva answered in the first with three runs on three hits off Panther starter Steven Tellerias (W, 1-0; 7 IP, 13 H, 7 R, 2 BB, 9 K).  Mordechai Cohen worked a bases loaded walk to score Mordy Kirsch before Max Goldstein (3-for-4, 4 RBI) roped a two-run single to give the Maccabees a one-run advantage.

Ziegen led off the third frame with a solo home run (ninth career) over the left field fence as part of Old Westbury's five-run third.

Old Westbury put the game away in the sixth inning with six runs on six hits and two errors to take a 13-4 lead.  Russo tripled home Jesse Matos for what proved to be the game-winning run to give Old Westbury the 8-4 advantage.  Kevin Lao (3-for-5, 4 RBI, 3 R) clubbed an inside the park home run to score Gianni Carbone to cap the sixth inning scoring.

Ziegen and Lao both contributed two-run doubles in the seventh before Paul Rapoli (2-for-4) drove in Lao for Old Westbury's 18th run.

In the seventh, Cohen singled home Shmuli Goldis (4-for-4, 3 R) and Goldstein followed with a two-run double to settle the 18-7 final.

Game 2 (7 Inn.): Old Westbury 17, Yeshiva 0
Michael Gismondi (1-for-3, 2 RBI, 2 R) drew a two-out bases loaded walk to score Russo (1-for-2, 3 R, BB, 2 SB) for what proved to be the game-winning run in the first inning off Maccabee starter Rephael Rosenberg (L, 0-4; 6 H, 10 R, 9 ER, 6 BB, 3 K).

Old Westbury crossed the plate in all seven innings as starter Jason Espinal held up his end of the deal to improve to 3-0 on the season after scattering three hits while fanning eight banners in a complete-game shutout performance.

Ziegen (2-for-3, 3 RBI, R, BB. SB) capped the three-run second inning with a two-run double.

Old Westbury put together a five-run fourth inning to put the game away as Tyler Roberts (2-for-4, 2 R, RBI, SB) tripled home Gismondi to make it a 10-0 game.

After scoring one run in the fifth, Matos' two-run single highlighted a four-run sixth to extend the lead to 15.

Nicholas Balfe (3-for-5, 4 RBI, 3 R) opening the seventh-inning scoring with a RBI triple followed by Nick Cordero's RBI single to settle the 17-0 final.
