FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball (3-3, 3-3 Skyline) opened their Skyline Conference road schedule Sunday afternoon with a 7-3 setback before salvaging the split with a 2-1 win in extra innings over the Farmingdale State College Rams (7-9, 2-2 Skyline) in Farmingdale New, York.

Game 1: Farmingdale State 7, Old Westbury 3
After Farmingdale State took an early 3-0 first-inning lead on Panther starter Amanda Neenan (L, 1-1; 4 IP, 8 H, 7 R, 4 ER, 6 BB, K), Old Westbury scored two runs on two hits and two errors to make it a 3-2 game. Katie Rizzo scored on an error by shortstop Christina Rayfield for Old Westbury's initial run. Two batters later, Gabriella Valdes (2-for-3) singled home Neenan for the second run off Rams starter Julia Walpole (W, 3-1; 7 IP, 8 H, 3 R, ER, 4 BB, 2 K).

The Rams answered with single runs in the second and third frames followed by a pair of RBI singles in the fourth to extend their lead to five (7-2).

Old Westbury loaded the bases in the sixth for Samantha Scharff (2-for-4), who delivered a RBI single to score Kaite Skelly to settle the 7-3 final.

Game 2: Old Westbury 2, Farmingdale State 1 (8 Innings)
Old Westbury broke the scoring ice in the second inning to take a 1-0 lead on Farmingdale State starter Jaxie Collard (L,1-7; 8 IP, 6 H, 2 R, ER, BB, 2 K). Rizzo singled to left field and scored two batters later on a two-out RBI double by Joshlyn Grant to give Old Westbury the early advantage.

Farmingdale State responded in the bottom of the fifth with Rayfield's double down the right field line to score Alexa Luna to tie the game (1-1).

In extra innings, Panthers starter Lauren Bloom (W, 2-1; 8 IP, 2 H, R, ER, 4 BB) helped her own cause with a two-out RBI single to center field to score Grant for the game-winning run. Bloom then retired three-straight batters to secure her second-career win.

BARUCH COLLEGE BEARCATS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues play on the road Tuesday (Mar. 28) with a non-conference doubleheader against the Baruch College Bearcats (5-3) at 3:30 p.m. from Randall's Island in Manhattan.
