@OW_Panthers Softball battles St. Joseph’s (L.I.) in Skyline twinbill

Old Westbury remains at home for Saturday’s (Apr. 8) Skyline Conference showdown with Sage

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball (3-5, 3-5 Skyline) dropped a Skyline Conference home doubleheader Sunday afternoon to the St. Joseph's (L.I.) College Golden Eagles (7-7, 4-0 Skyline) with 2-1 and 5-2 setbacks inside Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  

Game 1: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 2, Old Westbury 1
Kristen Arbiter reached on a throwing error by Panther shortstop Joshlyn Grant to score Madeline Sganga in the top of the third to giv e St. Joseph's the early advantage (1-0).   

In the sixth inning, Camella Femoyer hit a RBI single to left center off Panther starter Amanda Neenan (L, 1-2; 7 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 4 BB, 6 K) to score Theresa Cardello (W, 4-2; 7 IP, 4 H, R, ER, 2 BB, 6 K) for what proved to be the game-winning run.   

Old Westbury responded with its lone run off starter Cardello with Lauren Bloom's (2-for-4, HR, 2B, RBI, R) first-career home run to settle the 2-1 final in the sixth inning.

The Panthers were unable to capitalize in the seventh with the bases loaded as Cardello induced three-straight pop-ups to secure the win.

Game 2: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 5, Old Westbury 2
Old Westbury broke the scoring ice in the second inning off Golden Eagle starter Lauren Buturla (W, 2-4; 7 IP, 8 H, 2 R, 2 ER, BB, K).  Krysta Flareau (1-for-3, 2B, R) doubled down the right field line and scored two batters later off Neenan's infield grounder to give the Panthers the early 1-0 lead.  

Old Westbury doubled its advantage in the fourth inning with Katie Rizzo's two-out RBI single that scored Synthia Betances for the 2-0 lead.  

St. Joseph's responded in the top of the sixth with four runs off Panther starter Lauren Bloom (L, 2-2; 7 IP, 11 H, 5 R, 5 ER, K).  The Golden Eagles tied the game with Lyndsay Smocer's two-run single down the left field line.  Two batters later, Sandra Foster single to drive in one to extend St. Joseph's lead (4-2).

The Golden Eagles tacked on an insurance run in the seventh with Smocer's RBI single with two outs that closed the scoring for the visitor's 5-2 win.  

THE SAGE COLLEGES GATORS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home next Saturday (Apr. 8) with a Skyline Conference doubleheader showdown against The Sage Colleges Gators at 1 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
