@OW_Panthers Baseball scores late to capture 10-7 win from Manhattanville

Old Westbury scored four runs in the eighth to secure Wednesday’s non-conference win

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball returned back to their winning ways Wednesday with a 10-7 home win over the Manhattanville College Valiants (5-8) in non-conference action from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  

Manhattanville struck first with a single followed by Robbie Lynch's RBI triple to score Chris Conklin for the game's initial run in the opening inning off Old Westbury (10-8) starter Vinny Negri (ND, 3 IP, 2 R, 8 H, 0 BB, 4 K)

The Valiants doubled their advantage in the second with four singles as Danny Gallagher drove in Nick Simmons for the 2-0 lead.  
 
Gianni Carbone singled off Richie Vetrano (L, 0-2, 4 IP, 4 R, 4 H, 3 BB) in the fourth inning to put the Panthers in the hit column.  Louis Sileno (2-for-3) then drove Carbone in with a RBI single to slice Old Westbury's deficit in half.  Two batters later, Jesse Russo (2-for-5, R) slapped a two-run double to left center to score Sileno and Paul Rapoli to give the Panthers a 3-2 advantage.  Liam Slattery rolled an infield grounder to first to score Jesse Matos (1-for-3, BB, 2 R) to extend the lead to two (4-2) at the end of four frames.

Old Westbury took a 6-2 lead on Manhattanville reliever  Anthony LoFaro in the seventh with Dean Sheridan's RBI double followed by a sacrifice fly by Carbone that scored Kevin Lao.

Manhattanville made it a one-score game (6-5) in the eighth with a RBI double by Joe Booker (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Simmons' infield grounder to score John Delahanty (3-for-5, RBI, R).

With two outs, Lao worked a bases loaded walk off reliever Jarret Oehler to plate home Matos before Sheridan (2-for-5, 4 RBI, 2 SB) broke the game open with a three-run double to score Russo for the game-winning run to take a 10-5 lead into the ninth. 

The Valiants scored two runs in the ninth before reliever Trey Pizzutello settled down to hold off Manhattville to preserve Old Westbury's win.  

Jason Espinal (2 K, BB) scattered one hit during his two innings of work to improve to 4-0 on the season.  Old Westbury also received solid relief efforts from Daniel Aguilo (2 IP, K, 0 BB) and James English (1 IP, K, 0 BB), who both held Manhattanville hitless.  

UNITED STATES MERCHANT MARINE ACADEMY MARINERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home Saturday (Apr. 1)for a 12 p.m. Skyline Conference doubleheader against the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners inside Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
