OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse used a strong second half surge to claim a 10-5 Skyline Conference Autism Awareness home victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (4-3, 2-1 Skyline) Saturday morning from Panther Park. With the win, Old Westbury improves to 3-7 overall and 2-1 in conference play.

Grace McHugh broke the scoring ice 2:37 in to give Merchant Marine the early 1-0 advantage. Sara Bey put Old Westbury on the board with her 18th goal of the season 8:53 in to tie the game at one (1-1). Gabby Marionakis assisted on Sarah Milafsky's goal with 15:30 showing on the first half clock for the Mariners to retake the lead (2-1). The Panthers responded after Halle Johnson finished a feed from Bey 56 second later knot up the game at two (2-2). Elizabeth Livi put away a goal with 11:01 remaining for Merchant Marine to regain the lead (3-2) before Taylor Guarneri scored the equalizer with 16 seconds left to send Old Westbury into intermission tied at three.

Natasha Treuman opened the second half scoring 1:55 in with her 20th goal of the season for Old Westbury to take the lead for good (4-3). Rachel Phillips added to the scoring 2:44 in to push the Panthers lead to two (5-3). Merchant Marine pulled within one (5-4) after McHugh put one in the back of the net with 26:17 showing on the second half clock. Old Westbury scored five-straight goals courtesy of Guarneri and Phillips in the final 15:51 to extend the Panthers advantage to six (10-4). McHugh recorded her hat trick with two seconds remaining for the Mariners that settled the 10-5 final.

Guarneri finished with her first-career hat trick (three goals on five shots) three points, one ground ball and one caused turnover to lead Old Westbury. Phillips followed with four points (four goals on six shots) while Danielle Weir chipped in four ground balls, three caused turnovers and one draw control. Treuman recorded four of the team's seven draw controls. Ashley Gugliuzzo (3-6) made nine saves to go along with four ground balls and one caused turnover in the win.

McHugh paced Merchant Marine with three points (three goals, one ground ball, one draw control) as Angela Parker registered game-high eight draw controls. Hannah Gizzi (3-3) stopped 10 shots and caused three of the team's seven turnovers in the defeat for the Mariners.

MOUNT SAINT MARY COLLEGE KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to Newburgh, New York next Tuesday (Apr. 11) for a Skyline Conference showdown versus the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (3-5, 2-1 Skyline) at 7 p.m. from Synthetic Turf Field.
