@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer tops Yeshiva for Skyline-opening win

Old Westbury posted a 3-1 road win Sunday evening

BROOKLYN --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer opened Skyline Conference play Sunday evening with a 3-1 win over the Yeshiva University Maccabees (1-3, 0-2 Skyline) from Aviator Field in Brooklyn.

Old Westbury (1-2, 1-0 Skyline) jumped ahead early as Nicole Jones finished a run from Keleyna Romoleroux to break the scoring ice 1:21 in for the 1-0 lead.  Yeshiva tied the game in the 15th minute as Anabella Berti scored on Panther goalie Alexa Higgins.  Old Westbury held the first-half advantage in shots (16-2) and corner kicks (7-0) with a 1-1 game headed to intermission.

It wasn't until the 73rd minute when Alysha Annarella found Cara Normile from 25 yards out for the decisive score that proved to be the game-winning goal.  Romoleroux then doubled Old Westbury's advantage 1:52 later by putting away Annarella's rebound past Yeshiva goalie Rivka Lindenblatt (1-3-0) to settle the 3-1 final.

Mary Clark made one save in just under 44 minutes of action to improve to 1-0-0 on the season for Old Westbury.  Lindenblatt collected 15 saves in defeat.

Old Westbury dominated the stat sheet in the second half to finish with the edge in shots (33-4) and corner kicks (14-0).

DREW UNIVERSITY RANGERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:  Old Westbury (1-2-0) is set to host the Drew University Rangers (3-2-0) Wednesday (Sept. 13) for its home opener at 4 p.m. from Panther Park.
