@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer opens home slate versus Drew

Old Westbury returns to action Saturday (Sept. 16) at Bryn Athyn

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer fell 5-0 in its home opener Wednesday to the Drew University Rangers (4-2-0) in non-conference action from Panther Park.

Sarah Racine scored on Panther goalie Alexa Higgins (0-3-0) off a feed from Meghan McDermott to break the scoring ice for Drew' 1:06 in for the 1-0 lead.  McDermott later doubled the Rangers' advantage with an unassisted goal by wrestling a loose ball away in the box for the two-goal advantage in the 13the minute. Drew took a 3-0 lead into the half as McDermott and Leah Dentale dished out a double assist on Dentale's goal in the 20th minute.
 
Lauren Cassella and Lauren DeLillo settled the scoring with goals in the 63rd and 74th minutes, respectively, before the game was called in the 80th minute due to thunder.

Cara Normile was credited with Old Westbury's lone shot in the 34th minute as Drew finished with the advantage in shots (31-1), shots on goal (18-0) and corner kicks (8-1)

Higgins made seven first-half saves before Mary Clark stopped six shots in the second half in defeat for Old Westbury.  Madison Dudziez (2-2-0) played 45 minutes to earn Drew's win as Brielle Castanheira and Nicole Fallon logged second-half minutes to combine for the shutout.

BRYN ATHYN COLLEGE LIONS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury (1-3-0) returns to road play Saturday (Sept. 16) with a 4 p.m. non-conference showdown versus the Bryn Athyn College Lions from General Ronald K. Nelson Field in Bryn Athyn, Pennsylvania.
