@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball sweeps past Lehman

Old Westbury continues road action on Sunday (Sept. 17) against Castleton and Johnson State

BRONX, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball defeated the Lehman College Lightning (0-7) in three straight sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-19) Thursday evening in non-conference road action inside the APEX to improve to 5-1 on the season.

Old Westbury came out swinging in the opening set, landing 12 kills on 28 attempts to hit a match-best .250 before finishing the evening hitting .150 compared to Lehman's -.091. The Panthers also held a 14-7 advantage in aces.

Danielle Corsi led the way for Old Westbury with a career-high seven kills on 11 swings at a .455 clip.  Nikia Gardon followed with a career-best seven kills to hit .357 to go with four digs.  Kristin Grieshaber's 17 assists and three aces directed the offense.  Sidasia Johnson nailed down five kills and served two aces.  Jazmine Ortiz scooped a career-high 11 digs to pace the defense and added four kills.  Sofia Goris chipped in with eight digs and three aces.

Samantha Delgado dished out 13 assists and added six digs and two aces to lead the Lightning. Yzaira Galan had six kills while Caitlin Vernon and Francesca Acevedo followed with four kills each.

CASTLETON UNIVERSITY SPARTANS AND JOHNSON STATE COLLEGE BADGERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury travels to Castleton, Vermont for Sunday's (Sept. 17) non-conference tri-match at Castleton University.  The Panthers open with the host Spartans (0-6) at 12 p.m. inside Glenbrook Gymnasium, followed by a 2 p.m. showdown with the Johnson State College Badgers (0-6) inside Shape Gymnasium.
