@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball improves to 7-1 on young season with pair of wins

Old Westbury defeated Castleton University and Johnson State College to jump out to best start since 2005

CASTLETON, VT --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball is off to their best start since the 2005 season after defeating the Castleton State College Spartans and Johnson State College Badgers to improve to 7-1 on the campaign.  On the road in Castleton, Vermont, the Panthers opened by winning in four sets (19-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-15) to the host Spartans (0-7) before a three-set sweep (25-6, 25-8, 25-8) to the Badgers (0-8). 

After opening with a .128 hitting percentage in the first set, Old Westbury rebounded to hit at a .267 clip to win the second set prior to closing out the fourth set hitting a game-high .286.  Old Westbury finished the match hitting .170 compared to Castleton's .045.  Old Westbury also held the advantage in blocks (7-2), assists (44-31) and digs (69-66) as Castleton served 14 aces to the Panthers' 10.

Danielle Corsi nailed down a team-leading 10 kills (.400 hitting percentage) for Old Westbury.  Sidasia Johnson followed with nine kills to go with 10 digs, six blocks (four solo, two block assists) and three aces.  Kristin Grieshaber captained the Panther offense with 29 assists and seven kills while contributing nine digs on defense.  Kyraleigh Zinnel chipped in with three aces.  Defensively, Sofia Goris led the way with a career-high 26 digs.

Shannon Manchester produced a game-high 11 kills to lead Castleton.  Maria Jackson's 24 assists captained the offense while contributing 10 digs on defense.

Old Westbury established season highs against Johnson State in hitting percentage (.300) and aces (24) as the Panthers hit at a .500 clip in the opening set.  Johnson State was limited to just a .047 hitting percentage while Old Westbury also held the advantage in kills (29-8), aces (24-0), assists (26-7), blocks (1-0) and digs (22-19).

Leading the way for Old Westbury was Zinnel, who registered career highs of 13 assists, 10 aces and four kills to post her first-career double-double.  Daesha Garrison served four aces (career-high) and Grieshaber followed with three.  Garrison and Olivia O'Keefe both added five kills.
  
Kimberly Reville paced Johnson State with 10 digs, four assists and two kills. 
 
ALBERTUS MAGNUS COLLEGE FALCONS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home Friday (Sept. 22) for a non-conference showdown with the Albertus Magnus College Falcons at 6 PM inside Clark Athletic Center.
