@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer scores early to capture 2-1 win from Mitchell

Old Westbury’s opened its five-game road trip Saturday with a victory

NEW LONDON, CT --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer opened their five-game road trip Saturday afternoon with a 2-1 win over the Mitchell College Mariners (0-3-1) from Alumni Field in New London, Connecticut.

Old Westbury (2-2-1) jumped ahead early and never looked back as Ronald Monge sent one past Mitchell goalie Seth Strader (0-3-1) in the 23rd minute to break the scoring ice.  The Panther defense was solid in the first half, limiting the Mariners to just one shot on goal as Old Westbury held the 1-0 lead and 9-4 edge in shots heading into intermission.

The Panthers doubled their advantage in the 75th minute as Jorey Garcia put away the game-winning goal to make it a 2-0 game.  Mitchell broke through in the 86th minute as Andrew Storton sliced the deficit in half by finishing Jarron Walter's feed that settled the 2-1 final.

Panther goalie Mike Warren (2-2-1) made one save in 90 minutes to secure Old Westbury's win as Strader stopped four shots in defeat for Mitchell.

In the end, Old Westbury held the advantage in shots (16-12) and shots on goal (7-3) while Mitchell finished with a 7-4 edge in corner kicks.

RAMAPO COLLEGE ROADRUNNERS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues road play Wednesday (Sept. 20) against the Ramapo College Roadrunners at 4 p.m. in non-conference action from Athletic Center Turf in Mahwah, New Jersey.
