@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer outlasts Ramapo in 1-0 double overtime thriller

Old Westbury remains on the road for Saturday’s (Sept. 23) Skyline Conference opener at Farmingdale State College

MAHWAH, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) Just six games into the season, SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer competed in their third overtime contest Wednesday afternoon to come away with a 1-0 double overtime win over the Ramapo College Roadrunners (3-4-0) in non-conference road action from Athletic Center Turf in Mahwah, New Jersey.

Ramapo came out of the first-half gates as the aggressor by firing the game's first shot 39 seconds in.  The Roadrunners put up five shots before Old Westbury's first attempt by Jorey Garcia was stopped by Ramapo goalie Ryan Sprague (2-4-0).  Ramapo held the first-half advantage in shots (12-4) as Garcia and Eric Ragogna accounted for all three of Old Westbury's shots on goal to hold a 3-2 edge in that department.

Old Westbury (3-2-1) turned up the pressure in the second half as Ragogna tested Sprague 1:49 in for the period's first shot.  Both teams put up nine shots in the second stanza to send a scoreless game into overtime.

After Ramapo's Korben Torres took the first shot 55 seconds into overtime, the Roadrunners were forced to play a man down when Trevor Albrecht was dealt a red card with 8:16 remaining in the period.  Despite playing with the advantage, Old Westbury was unable to convert on Alexander Routledge's three attempts as the game advanced to double overtime.

The Panthers wasted little time in the second overtime as Nikolas Sgaraglio fed Ronald Monge for a blast from 30 yards out to net his first-career game-winning goal 22 seconds in.

Mike Warren (3-2-1) turned away eight shots to register his seventh-career shutout to secure Old Westbury's win.  Sprague also stopped eight shots in defeat for Ramapo.

In the end, Ramapo led in total shots (22-17) and corner kicks (11-2), while Old Westbury held a 9-8 advantage in shots on frame.

FARMINGDALE STATE COLLEGE RAMS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues road play Saturday (Sept. 23) in its Skyline Conference opener against the Farmingdale State College Rams (2-2-0) at 12 p.m. from Rams Field in Farmingdale, New York.
