@OW_Panthers Women’s Soccer continues road trip with Skyline showdown at Sarah Lawrence

Old Westbury will close out its three-game road trip Thursday (Sept. 21) at Western Connecticut State University

YONKERS, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's soccer continued their three-game road trip Tuesday evening with a 2-0 Skyline Conference setback to the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (3-2-1, 2-0-0 Skyline) from Tibbets Brook Park in Yonkers, New York.

Old Westbury (1-5-0, 1-1-0 Skyline) started the match on the attack by firing four of its six first-half shots in the opening 13:24.  Sarah Lawrence gained momentum by taking the next three shots as Lauren Ashby broke a scoreless tie in the 31st minute.  Ashby put away Gillian Glasier's rebound past Old Westbury goalie Alexa Higgins (0-5-0) to give the Gryphons a 1-0 lead heading into the half.

Ashby struck again in the 58th minute to double the Gryphons' advantage to settle the 2-0 final after her initial shot was stopped by Higgins.

Higgins turned away eight for Old Westbury to post her second-highest save total of the season.  Madison Mertsch (3-2-1) stopped two shots to secure Sarah Lawrence's shutout.

In the end, both teams fired two corner kicks while the Gryphons held the edge in shots (15-8) and shots on goal (10-2).  Alysha Annarella paced the Panther offense with three shots as Nicole Jones and Ashley Onofre both put up two.

WESTERN CONNECTICUT STATE UNIVERSITY COLONIALS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury continues road play Thursday (Sept. 21) against the Western Connecticut State University Colonials (6-0-0) at 6 p.m. in non-conference action from The WAC in Danbury, Connecticut.
