@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer fends off Farmingdale State to win Skyline opener

Old Westbury remains on the road next Saturday (Sept. 30) for a Skyline Conference showdown with Purchase College

FARMINGDALE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer opened Skyline Conference play Saturday afternoon with a 1-0 win over the Farmingdale State College Rams (2-3-0, 0-2-0) in Farmingdale, New York.

Old Westbury (4-2-1) took the lead 7:54 in as Nikolas Sgaraglio used the left post to score past Ram goalie Daniel Stern (2-1-0) for the Panthers' 1-0 lead at half.  The game-winning goal was Sgaraglio's first of the second (second career).  Jorey Garcia put up two of Old Westbury's seven first-half shots to give the Panthers a 7-4 edge in that department.

Farmingdale State stymied the Panther offense in the second half by limiting Old Westbury to one second-half shot by Garcia in the 82nd minute as the Rams were unsuccessful in their six attempts.    

Panther goalie Mike Warren (4-2-1) stopped four shots to post his second-consecutive shutout (third of season, eighth career).

Despite the loss, Farmingdale State held the advantage in shots (10-8), shots on goal (4-1) and corner kicks (6-4).  

PURCHASE COLLEGE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury remains on the road next Saturday (Sept. 30) for a Skyline Conference showdown against the Purchase College Panthers at 12 p.m. from Purchase College Field in Purchase, New York.
