@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball moves past Medgar Evers in straight sets

Old Westbury remains perfect at 3-0 with a straight set victory against visiting Medgar Evers

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball swept the visiting Medgar Evers College Cougars (0-2) in straight sets (25-10, 25-8, 25-10) Thursday evening in non-conference inside Clark Athletic Center to improve to 3-0 on the young season.  The 3-0 record is Old Westbury's best start since 2010.  

Old Westbury hit a match-best .467 during the opening set before finishing the evening hitting .259 compared to Medgar Evers' -.163.  The Panthers also held a 22-5 advantage in aces.

Kristin Grieshaber led the way for Old Westbury with 17 assists and a career-high nine aces to go with five digs and four kills at a .375 clip.  Grieshaber also served 12-straight points between the second and third sets.  Sidasia Johnson followed with a career-best seven aces in addition to posting four kills and two blocks.  Jazmine Ortiz and Danielle Corsi both chipped in with three and two aces, respectively.

Shania Laguerre scooped a match-high nine digs to pace Medgar Evers.  Elizabeth Figaro nailed down four kills while Melisa Wright totaled three aces and six digs.

SKYLINE CONFERENCE OPENING TRI-MATCH UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS:  Old Westbury continues its homestand Sunday (Sept. 10) with a Skyline Conference opening tri-match starting with the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons at 10 a.m. and the Yeshiva University Maccabees at 2 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.
