Renker lifts @OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball past Mount Saint Vincent, 70-56

Old Westbury closes out its four-game homestand Tuesday (Jan. 16) against Sarah Lawrence College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball improved to 4-0 at home on the season (13th-straight regular-season home win) Saturday afternoon with a 70-56 Skyline Conference victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins (5-8, 3-6 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.  Old Westbury (12-1, 6-1 Skyline) played with a lead for the final 30:56 to extend its head-to-head win streak against Mount Saint Vincent to five.
    
Destiny Marino knocked down a 3-pointer to give Old Westbury an early 7-1 lead 1:22 into first-quarter play.  Old Westbury led for most of the opening period until Kaitlin McGeown's jumper capped an 11-4 Dolphin run for their lone lead of the game, 13-11.  Tyra Bellings' 3-pointer broke a 13-all tie with 56 seconds left as Old Westbury outscored Mount Saint Vincent by six (8-2) over the final 1:27.  Old Westbury outscored Mount Saint Vincent 14-12 in the second half to lead 33-27 at intermission.

Mount Saint Vincent pulled within three points (34-31) in the openings minutes of third-quarter play before Bridgid McNeill's layup at 6:35 capped an 8-0 Panther run that extend their lead to 11 (42-31) with 6:35 left.  Leading by eight (47-39) heading into the fourth period, Old Westbury pushed its lead to grab a 12-point advantage (51-39) with layups by McNeill and Renker with 8:49 remaining.  Moments later, Monique Joseph's jumper finished Old Westbury's 12-4 spurt to extend the lead to a game-high 16 points (59-43) with 4:46 showing on the fourth-quarter clock.

Renker totaled 22 points (10-of-16 FG), 13 rebounds, eight blocks (career-high) and two steals to register her sixth double-double of the season (17th career) in leading Old Westbury to victory.  Tori Bellings followed with 10 points, eight assists (game-high), five rebounds and two steals.  Joseph added nine points, 11 rebounds (six offensive) and five assists while McNeill registered eight points, 10 rebounds (eight offensive) and two blocks.   

Kelly Nola finished with 17 points (9-of-10 FT) and three steals to pace Mount Saint Vincent. Kelly Oliver chipped in 11 points and six steals while Emily Ott scored 10 points.
 
In the end, Old Westbury connected on 37.3 percent (25-of-67) from the field, 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from 3-point range and 61.5 percent (16-of-26) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Mount Saint Vincent hit on 27 percent (17-of-63) from the floor, 23.8 percent (5-of-21) from beyond the arc and 81 percent (17-of-21) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 67-28, while scoring 21 second-chance points off 30 offensive rebounds. The Panthers converted 19 Dolphin turnovers into 18 points.  Old Westbury held the advantage in assists (20-11), blocks (11-2), and points in the paint (40-18) while Mount Saint Vincent led the way in fastbreak points (6-2), bench points (14-12) and steals (12-6).
