@OW_Panthers Men’s Basketball scores four in double figures at Purchase

Old Westbury returns home Thursday (Jan. 18) to face Sarah Lawrence College in Skyline Conference action

PURCHASE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball dropped an 81-65 Skyline Conference decision Tuesday evening to the Purchase College Panthers (9-4, 6-3 Skyline) from Purchase College Gymnasium in Purchase, New York.  Old Westbury (5-9, 4-5 Skyline) entered the evening winners of four-straight games versus Purchase, including three of those as the road team.

After falling behind (5-3) 1:33 in, Yancy Ulysse's jumper with 17:50 left in the half ignited Old Westbury's 10-0 run to pull ahead, 13-5.  Julieon Boney stuck a jumper with 8:16 remaining in the stanza to give Old Westbury a 25-15 lead.  Old Westbury's lead grew to a game-high 18 points (45-27) off a layup by Alan McDonald with 26 seconds left in the half.  The visitors dominated first-half play by shooting 9-of-13 from 3-point range and 18-of-33 from the floor.

Trailing by 13 (45-32) at the halfway point, Purchase turned up the pressure to outscore Old Westbury by 29 points (49-20) in the final 20 minutes to secure the win.  Old westbury also missed on all 10 attempts from behind the arc while Purchase sank 6-of-7 from long distance.  Purchase closed out the first half with five-straight points to spark a game-changing 37-9 run that put the home team up by eight (64-56) with 8:43 showing on the second-half clock.  Stanley Baker answered 11 seconds later with a layup to pull Old Westbury within six (64-58) before Purchase held a 17-7 scoring advantage over the final 7:52 of play.

Ulysse finished with a game-high 19 points (8-of-12 FG) to go with eight rebounds and two steals in leading Old Westbury.  Terrin Roland followed with 10 points, seven assists, six rebounds and two steals.  Preston Powell and Julieon Boney chipped in with 12 points and 10, respectively.

Michael Soffer finished with 17 points (4-of-9 FG, 7-of-8 FT) to pace Purchase. Tarik Allicock contributed 14 points (7-of-8 FG) and seven rebounds.  Brian Berrios scored 14 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds while Deshawn Cann and Max Pearce added 12 points apiece.

In the end, Old Westbury hit on 42.9 percent (27-of-63) from the floor, 39.1 percent (9-of-23) from beyond the arc and 40 percent (2-of-5) from the charity stripe. By comparison, Purchase connected on 54.7 percent (29-of-53) from the floor, 55 percent (11-of-20) from 3-point range and 75 percent (12-of-16) from the free-throw line. Purchase won the boards battle, 37-28, while scoring 11 second-chance points off 11 offensive rebounds.  Purchase scored 11 points off 10 Old Westbury turnovers. Purchase led the way in assists (24-17), points in the paint (24-22), bench points (19-16) while Old Westbury held the advantage in blocks (4-2) and steals (8-4).  Both teams were even with four blocks apiece.
