Old Westbury continues its five-game Skyline Conference road trip next Tuesday (Jan. 23) versus Yeshiva University

THROGGS NECK, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball fell behind early and were unable to recover Saturday afternoon by falling 80-70 on the road to the Maritime College Privateers (8-8, 5-7 Skyline) in Skyline Conference action from Riesenberg Hall Gymnasium.  Old Westbury (6-10, 5-6 Skyline) entered the game winners of 14-straight head-to-head matchups versus Maritime dating back to the 2009-10 season.

Maritime took advantage of Old Westbury misfiring on five attempts from the field to start the game by grabbing an early 9-0 lead 2:54 in.  Trailing by as many as 10 points in the opening half, Old Westbury tied the game at 27 with a 13-4 run from 10:47 to 7:54.  Maritime kept Old Westbury at bay for the remainder of the half by holding an 8-3 scoring advantage over the final 2:09 to take a 45-38 lead into intermission.

After Maritime built its lead back to 10 (50-40) with 17:35 left in the second half, Old Westbury scored nine of the game's next 12 points over the next 4:19 to pull within four (53-49).  Following Yancy Ulysse's layup that made it a 55-51 game, Maritime scored 10-straight points capped by John Liccese's trey to push the Privateer lead to 14 (65-51) with 8:48 showing on the second-half clock.  Old Westbury used a late charge to pull within six points (74-68) off Alan McDonald's free throw.  Maritime replied by scoring six of the game's final eight points in the last 45 seconds to secure its first home win against Old Westbury since January 21, 2010.

McDonald finished with 19 points (7-of-12 FG) and seven rebounds to pace Old Westbury.  Ulysse followed with 17 points, eight rebounds and a career-high four blocks.  Brandon Thomson chipped in 12 points, seven rebounds and a career-best four steals while Roland dished out eight assists.

Liccese led the way for Maritime with a game-high 25 points (4-of-8 3FG) to go with eight rebounds.  Brendan McGovern contributed 19 points while Patrick MacDonald scored 14 and grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds.

In the end, Old Westbury hit on 35.7 percent (25-of-70) from the floor, 18.5 percent (5-of-27) from beyond the arc and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the charity stripe.  By comparison, Maritime connected on 41.8 percent (28-of-67) from the floor, 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from 3-point range and 70 percent (14-of-20) from the free-throw line.  Maritime won the boards battle, 47-43, while scoring 14 second-chance points off 13 offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury scored 12  points off 16 Privateer turnovers and held the edge in points in the paint (38-32), steals (9-8), fastbreak points (6-2) and bench points (30-11).  Maritime finished with a 19-15 advantage in assists as both teams drew even in blocks (4-4).
