@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball outlasts Farmingdale State to notch 66-61 win

Old Westbury hits the road Tuesday (Jan. 30) for a Skyline Conference showdown versus Purchase College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball won their 16th-straight regular-season home game Thursday evening with a 66-61 Skyline Conference victory over the Farmingdale State College Rams (8-10, 7-4 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center. With the win, Old Westbury (15-2, 9-2 Skyline) earns the season-series sweep of Farmingdale State for the third-straight year.

Old Westbury took control early with a Destiny Marino 3-pointer 51 seconds in to ignite a 10-0 Panther run.  Farmingdale State answered with six-straight points to pull within four (10-6) before Old Westbury outscored the Rams 12-4 over the final 3:16 to hold a 22-10 advantage at the end of one quarter of play.  Marino landed a trio of 3-pointers in the second quarter followed by a Monique Joseph jumper at 2:52 to stretch Old Westbury's lead to 18 (37-19).  Trailing by 18 (39-21), Farmingdale State closed out the final 2:06 with nine-unanswered points to trim its halftime deficit to nine (39-30).  

Tori Bellings helped bring Old Westbury's lead back to double digits with a layup at 7:02 to make it a 43-32 game.  The Rams countered with a 15-2 spurt to grab their first lead of the game, 47-45, with 3:45 left in the third quarter.  Charlotte Renker's layup at 2:52 broke a 47-all tie as the Panthers took a 55-51 lead into the final stanza.  Farmingdale State rattled off six-straight points to go up 57-56 for its final lead with 5:27 showing on the fourth-quarter clock.  Bridgid McNeill finished a feed from Tori Bellings 48 seconds later with a layup to put Old Westbury in front for good (58-57).  Old Westbury knocked down 8-of-10 from the free-throw line in the final 4:04 to ice the game as Joseph's free throw with 1:33 remaining proved to be the game winner for the 62-59 lead.       
 
Renker finished with 15 points, 22 rebounds (career-high) and four blocks to record her ninth double-double of the season (20th career).   Joseph posted game highs of 19 points and seven steals while pulling down 11 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season.  Marino finished with 16 points (5-of-7 3FG) as Tori Bellings totaled nine points, six assists (game-high) and three steals.  
 
Kaelyn Ward put together a double-double for the Rams by totaling 16 points and 10 rebounds. Alexis Antonacci dropped in 19 points (10-of-10 FT) to go with five steals while Essence Casey chipped in with 18 points and nine rebounds.
 
In the end, Old Westbury hit on 38.3 percent (23-of-60) from the floor, 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from beyond the arc and 56 percent (14-of-25) from the charity stripe.  By comparison, Farmingdale State connected on 27.3 percent (18-of-66) from the floor, 22.9 percent (8-of-35) from 3-point range and 56 percent (14-of-25) from the free-throw line.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 56-36, while scoring 14 second-chance points off 18 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers held the edge in blocks (8-4), assists (18-10), points in the paint (26-18).  Farmingdale State scored 22 points off 32 Old Westbury turnovers, and led the way in steals (15-11), fastbreak points (7-4), and bench points (8-2).
