@OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball soars past Saint Elizabeth, 80-45

Old Westbury continues its four-game homestand Saturday (Jan. 13) with a Skyline Conference matchup against College of Mount Saint Vincent

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball claimed a 80-45 non-conference home victory over the College of Saint Elizabeth Eagles (2-9) Tuesday evening inside Clark Athletic Center.  Old Westbury (11-1) has now won five-straight games versus Saint Elizabeth since the 2014-15 season.

Saint Elizabeth broke the scoring ice 1:09 in with a Damaris King layup for the Eagles' lone lead of the game.  Tori Bellings then tied the game 20 seconds later with a layup before sinking a jumper with 8:01 left in the first period to put Old Westbury in front for good.  Old Westbury closed out the final 6:18 with a 17-2 run to hold a 23-6 advantage at the end of the first quarter.  Destiny Marino converted a 3-point play with 6:35 showing on the second-quarter clock to push Old Westbury's lead to 20 (33-13).  Old Westbury's first-half lead grew to 28 before Saint Elizabeth scored five of the period's final eight points to slice its deficit to 25 (45-20) heading into intermission.   

Bridgid McNeill scored five-straight points to key a 13-0 Panther spurt to increase Old Westbury's advantage to 36 (56-20) with 4:59 left in the third quarter.  Saint Elizabeth answered with a 12-0 run to pull within 24 (56-32) as Deja Ingram's eight points during that stretch fueled the charge.  The Eagles' momentum carried into the fourth quarter when Rakiyah Sellers' 3-pointer capped a 5-0 run to help Saint Elizabeth trim its deficit to 21 points (60-39) with 8:04 remaining.  Old Westbury played with a 30-point advantage for the final 3:05 as Lauren London's jumper extended the Panthers lead to a game-high 37 points (80-43) with 1:09 left.  

Monique Joseph led Old Westbury with 18 points (7-of-15 FG), 13 rebounds and six steals to register her fifth double-double of the season (13th career).  Charlotte Renker used 11 points, 11 rebounds and two blocks to post her fifth double-double of the season (16th career).  Marino finished with 10 points and five assists while Tori Bellings dished out a game-high six assists.  McNeill tied a career high with three blocks.
Deja Ingram finished with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and six blocks to pace Saint Elizabeth.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 38.4 percent (33-of-86) from the field, 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from 3-point range and 50 percent (10-of-20) from the free-throw line.  By comparison, Saint Elizabeth hit on 27 percent (17-of-63) from the floor, 11.1 percent (2-of-18) from beyond the arc and 50 percent (9-of-18) from the charity stripe.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 70-39, while scoring 33 second-chance points off 33 offensive rebounds. The Panthers converted  22 Eagle turnovers into 32 points.  Old Westbury held the advantage in assists (19-9), fastbreak points (12-4), points in the paint (52-18) and bench points (28-8) while Saint Elizabeth led the way in blocks (12-6) and steals (11-9).

COLLEGE OF MOUNT SAINT VINCENT DOLPHINS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains at home Saturday (Jan. 13) for a Skyline Conference showdown versus the College of Mount Saint Vincent Dolphins at 2 p.m. inside Clark Athletic Center.
