@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer erupts for eight goals to coast past Sarah Lawrence

Old Westbury remains on the road Friday (Oct. 19) for a critical Skyline Conference tilt with Yeshiva University

YONKERS, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer scored three first-half goals en route to coasting to a 8-0 Skyline Conference road win against the Sarah Lawrence College Gryphons (2-12-0, 2-6-0 Skyline) from Fleming Field in Yonkers.  The Panthers (6-5-4, 2-1-4 Skyline) have won all six matchups against the Gryphons since 2013. The win gives Old Westbury nine points to sit in sixth place in the Skyline standings with just three league games remaining.

Old Westbury broke through in the 31st minute as Edens Avril rebounded home Robson Point Du Jour's shot to beat Gryphon goalie Aaron Ashery (1-7-0) for what proved to be the game-winning goal.  Nick Gino followed with goals in the 34th and 39th minutes off feeds from Alex DaSilva and Brian Lopez, respectively, to send a 3-0 game into intermission.

The Panthers piled on a season-best five second-half goals ignited by Gino's third of the game in the 68th minute to net his first-career hat trick.  Lopez, Santiago Lieb and Grixon Moreira each scored their first-career goals during a stretch of 5:19 to extend the lead to seven. Baljit Thandi registered his second assist of the day by connecting with Santiago at the 86:20 mark to settle the 8-0 final.

Mike Warren (6-5-4) made one save during the opening 61:24 before James Perciballi stopped one  shot to preserve Old Westbury's combined shutout. Ashery surrendered six goals and turned away five shots in defeat for Sarah Lawrence.

Old Westbury dominated play to finish with the advantage in shots (25-6), shots on goal (15-2) and corner kicks (6-4).

YESHIVA UNIVERSITY MACCABEES  UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury remains on the road Friday (Oct. 19) for a Skyline Conference showdown with the Yeshiva University Maccabees (7-4-0, 5-2-0 Skyline) at 11:30 a.m. from Votee Park in Teaneck, New Jersey.  The Panthers are 9-2 against the Macs dating back to the 2005 campaign.
