@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer blanks Yeshiva to improve Skyline postseason position

Old Westbury closes out its regular season road slate Sunday (Oct. 21) with a Skyline Conference matchup against St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn)

TEANECK, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer scored a trio of second-half goals to power themselves to a 4-0 Skyline Conference victory on the road Friday afternoon against the Yeshiva University Maccabees (7-5-0, 5-3-0 Skyline) from Votee Park in Teaneck, New Jersey.  The Panthers (7-5-4, 3-1-4 Skyline) are now 10-2 against the Macs since the 2005 campaign.  The win gives Old Westbury 13 points on the season to sit in sixth place in the Skyline standings with just two league games remaining.

Nick Gino opened the scoring by burying his second game-winning goal of the season in the 30th minute off Peter Young's feed to send the Panthers into intermission with a 1-0 lead.  In the first stanza, Old Westbury outshot the Maccabees 8-3.

The Panthers dominated the second stanza starting with a goal scored by Young in the 60th minute on a shot fired from outside of the box to put the Panthers up 2-0.  Gino answered in the 79th minute by cashing in on a corner kick set up by Grixon Moreira for his seventh goal of the season to build a three-goal cushion. Alex DaSilva then joined the scoring 37 seconds later by sending a shot outside the box past Yeshiva goalie Edgar Schottland (7-5-0) to put the finishing touches on a 4-0 win.

Mike Warren (7-5-4) recorded his lone save of the day when he was tested in the 18th minute by Joseph Grobman to secure his sixth shutout of the season and 15th of his career.  Schottland surrendered four goals and stopped 11 shots for the Maccabees.

At the end of 90 minutes, Old Westbury owned the advantage in shots (24-6), shots on goal (15-1) and corner kicks (11-0).

ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE (BROOKLYN) BEARS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury closes out its regular season road slate Sunday (Oct. 21) with a Skyline Conference matchup against the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (4-13-0, 1-7-0 Skyline) at 12 p.m. from Aviator Field in Brooklyn, New York.  The Panthers are undefeated (3-0) against the Bears dating back to 2015.
