@OW_Panthers Men’s Soccer maintains unbeaten Skyline status with St. Joseph’s (L.I.) tie

Old Westbury opens a six-game road trip Friday (Oct. 5) starting with a Skyline Conference showdown against Mount Saint Mary College

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's soccer defended their home field Tuesday afternoon with a 1-1 Skyline Conference draw to the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles (4-6-1, 2-2-1 Skyline) from Panther Park.  The tie moves Old Westbury (4-4-3, 1-0-3 Skyline) to 2-2-1 against the Golden Eagles dating back to 2014, including a 2-0-1 record at home during that stretch.

The Panthers opened the scoring early with a goal by Ronald Monge off a Nick Gino feed 5:09 in for the quick strike past keeper Tyler Flaherty (4-6-1).  Moments later, St. Joseph's answered with the equalizer by Rayneri Ruiz in the 14th minute on goalie Mike Warren (4-4-3).

Old Westbury tested St. Joseph's early in the second half by putting up seven of the period's first eight shots.  The Golden Eagles closed out regulation by firing the last five attempts as the game advanced to overtime.

Gino took two shots in the first overtime before St. Joseph's attempted the lone shot of the final stanza to settle the 1-1 decision.

The Panthers finished with the advantage in shots (17-14) and corner kicks (4-3) while St. Joseph's landed five shots on target compared to Old Westbury's four.

MOUNT SAINT MARY COLLEGE KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens a six-game road trip Friday (Oct. 5) evening starting with a Skyline Conference matchup at 7 p.m. against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (7-4-0, 3-0-0 Skyline) in Newburgh, New York.  The Panthers are 3-5-1 in their last nine games against Mount Saint Mary and will look for their first win at Kaplan Field since 2010.
