@OW_Panthers Women’s Volleyball close non-conference slate at New Jersey City

Old Westbury travels to Purchase, New York to conclude the regular season Saturday (Oct. 27) afternoon with a Skyline Conference tri-match against Purchase College and United States Merchant Marine Academy

JERSEY CITY, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's volleyball closed out their non-conference slate Wednesday evening by dropping a three-set decision (25-19, 26-24, 25-22) to the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (11-17) inside John J. Moore Athletic Center in Jersey City, New Jersey.  The Panthers (5-15) move to 3-13 all-time versus New Jersey City.

Old Westbury produced 11 kills and attacked at a rate of .212 during its third set to finish the match firing away at a .138 clip.  New Jersey City hit .179 and outplayed the Panthers in kills (42-24), aces (12-8), assists (36-20) and digs (49-44) while Old Westbury won the battle of blocks, 6-3.  

Leading the way for Old Westbury was Joelle Desrosiers, who totaled 15 points on 10 kills, three aces and two solo blocks.  She also hit .391 on 23 swings and added nine digs to her statline. Kyraleigh Zinnel served three aces and handed out 19 assists to direct the Panthers offensive attack.  Danielle Corsi registered a match-high 2.5 blocks and scooped a team-best 11 digs. Daesha Garrison chipped in seven kills, two block assists and eight digs.

Stephanie Duque nailed down a match-leading 15 kills as Shayla Ware distributed 30 assists to pace the Gothic Knights to victory.  Duque, Ware and Naiomi Cintron all served three aces while Amber O'Donnell contributed 13 kills, 17 digs, two aces and two blocks assists.

PURCHASE COLLEGE PANTHERS SKYLINE CONFERENCE TRI-MATCH UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury (4-4 Skyline) wraps up regular-season play Saturday (Oct. 27) on the road with a Skyline Conference tri-match against the host Purchase College Panthers (3-15, 1-7 Skyline) at 11 a.m. followed by United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (16-5, 8-0 Skyline) at 1 p.m. from Purchase College Gymnasium in Purchase, New York.  Looking to make its first Skyline Conference Championship appearance since 2011, Old Westbury currently occupies the sixth seed in the league standings with two games remaining.
