OLD WESTBURY, NY ---
(www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball were unable to overcome a sharp-shooting SUNY Cortland Red Dragons (6-2) team in the second half Saturday afternoon en route to dropping a 96-76 non-conference home decision inside Clark Athletic Center.  The Panthers (3-4) have now lost back-to-back home games to Cortland.

Old Westbury went toe-to-toe with Cortland in the opening half to lead by as many as three (29-26) with 5:21 remaining in the period.  Mike Snowden scored six points during a key 7-2 Panther run for Old Westbury's largest lead of the game (29-26). Snowden landed half of Old Westbury's first-half triples to shoot 3-of-4 from downtown as he connected from deep with 50 seconds left to give the Panthers a 37-35 lead.  Nicky Bonura's three pointer answered for Cortland with two seconds left to give the Red Dragons a 38-37 advantage heading into intermission.

Cortland hit 12 three pointers in the second stanza to outscore the Panthers by 19 (58-39) in the final 20 minutes.  Old Westbury got as close as one (47-46) with 17:39 showing on the second-half clock before Cortland built a double-digit lead (59-48) by going on a 9-2 run with 14:33 left.  A jumper by Snowden 25 seconds later cut the deficit to nine (59-50). The Red Dragons played with a double-digit lead for the final 13:53 and scored 36 of the game's next 60 points that included shooting 8-of-13 from three to build a game-high 21-point cushion (95-74) with 60 seconds remaining.

Snowden finished with a career-high 23 points (10-of-17 FG, 3-of-6 3FG) to go along with five rebounds (three offensive) to pace Old Westbury.  Justin Alleyne-Washington followed with 19 points and 10 rebounds to post his second-career double-double. Pedro Marquez chipped in with 14 points (5-of-12 FG),  six assists and two steals.

Bonura led the way with a game-high 34 points (11-of-19 FG, 9-of-14 3FG) and added five rebounds and two steals to his statline for Cortland.  Justin Cooper contributed 25 points (9-of-12 FG, 6-of-6 FT), 11 rebounds and five assists. Ryan Schmadel poured in 12 points (4-of-6 3FG) and swatted away a game-high three shots.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on 40.3 percent (29-of-72) from the field, 35.7 percent (10-of-28) from three-point territory and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the free-throw line.  Cortland finished the game shooting 50.8 percent (32-of-63) from the field, 56.3 percent (18-of-32) from beyond the arc and 87.5 percent (14-of-16) from the charity stripe. The Red Dragons held a narrow +3 rebounding margin (41-38) while scoring 16 second-chance points off 11 offensive rebounds. Cortland outplayed Old Westbury in assists (16-15), fastbreak points (13-7) and bench points (11-9). Both teams drew even in blocks (6-6), steals (5-5) and points in the paint (26-26) as the Panthers scored 13 points off 14 Red Dragon miscues.
