Old Westbury remains on the road Saturday (Dec. 29) for the consolation game of the CUNYAC Coaches vs. Cancer versus Lehman College

BRONX, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) After last meeting in 2007, SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball dropped a 92-78 non-conference decision Friday afternoon to the Manhattanville College Valiants (5-6) in the opening day of the CUNYAC Coaches vs. Cancer hosted by Lehman College inside APEX Arena in Bronx.  The loss sends the Panthers (3-5) to 16-9 all-time versus Manhattanville.

After Alan McDonald's layup pulled Old Westbury within one (5-4), Mike Granda sank a three pointer at the 16:37 mark to ignite a 21-9 Valiant run to grab a first-half high 13-point lead (26-13) with 7:54 left.  Justin Alleyne-Washington sparked a 12-0 Panther run with three of his 11 first-half points at 7:27 as Old Westbury outscored Manhattanville 25-14 over the final 7:34 to trail 40-38 at intermission. Alleyne-Washington and McDonald combined for 17 of Old Westbury's 25 points during the key spurt.

Stanley Baker tied the game 19 seconds into second-half play with a layup to start a 7-2 run to give Old Westbury its first lead (45-42) with 18:07 on the clock.  Alleyne-Washington capped the spurt with a three pointer that built Old Westbury's largest lead of the game. Manhattanville answered 17 seconds later with a JoJo Cobbs three-point play to knot the game at 45.  McDonald laid in two points to make it a 47-45 game before Cobbs buried one from downtown to push the Valiants ahead (48-47) for the final 17:26. Manhattanville grabbed a double-digit lead (65-55) at 13:19 with an 11-3 run.  Old Westbury responded with six-straight points to slice the deficit to four (65-61). The Valiants outscored the Panthers by 10 (27-17) over the final 10 minutes as Sean Smith's three pointer with 2:16 remaining stretched the lead to a game-high 18 points (90-72).  Darale Young scored six of the game's next eight points to settle Old Westbury's 14-point setback.

Alleyne-Washington led all scorers with a career-high 29 points (11-of-18 FG, 3-of-7 3FG) to go along with five rebounds and two steals in leading Old Westbury.  McDonald followed with 16 points (8-of-12 FG) and eight rebounds while Young debuted with 14 points (6-of-12 FG) and two steals off the bench. Pedro Marquez scored nine points and dished out a game-high five assists.

Smith finished with 23 points (8-of-17 FG, 4-of-8 3FG) and 10 rebounds to pace Manhattanville.  Cobbs contributed 18 points (7-of-11 FG, 3-of-5 3FG). Granda registered 10 points and four assists while Matt Bielenda scored 10 and grabbed seven rebounds off the bench.

In the end, Old Westbury connected on a season-best 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the field while landing 25 percent (4-of-16) from three-point territory and 61.5 percent (8-of-13) from the free-throw line.  Manhattanville finished the evening shooting 51.5 percent (35-of-68) from the field, 46.7 percent (14-of-30) from beyond the arc and 53.3 percent (8-of-15) from the charity stripe.
