Tori Bellings scores 11 to lead @OW_Panthers Women's Basketball versus Skyline-leading Mount Saint Mary

Old Westbury continues its three-game Skyline Conference homestand Tuesday (Feb. 6) against Yeshiva University

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball shot a season-low 18.2 percent from the field to drop a 50-38 Skyline Conference decision at home Thursday evening to the Mount Saint Mary Knights (15-5, 12-1 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.  Old Westbury (16-3, 10-3 Skyline), who entered the contest with a 16-game regular-season home winning streak, lose the season series to Mount Saint Mary for the first time since 2014-15.

The opening quarter saw four combined lead changes with Old Westbury playing ahead for the final 3:31 to take a slim 10-9 margin into the second stanza.  Jessica Rini hit back-to-back jumpers in a span of 41 seconds to give Mount Saint Mary its first lead (13-12) since 3:52 showing on the first-quarter clock.  The Knights continued to build as Rini tallied a free throw and a jumper to cap a 7-0 run to push the lead to four (16-12).  In a half that saw Old Westbury shoot 1-of-13 from long distance, La'Niya Clark's triple helped the Panthers to a 4-1 scoring edge over the final 2:32 to send a 20-all game into intermission.

Maite Gritsko opened the third-quarter scoring 2:54 in to give the Knights a 23-20 lead.  Old Westbury went scoreless over an eight-minute stretch before Paige Jelinek's free throw with 2:21 left in the period ended the drought to pull the Panthers within two (23-21).  Rini would later score four-straight points to extend Mount Saint Mary's lead to five (27-22) with 1:24 left.  Tyra Bellings' 3-pointer 13 seconds later was Old Westbury's lone field goal in a third quarter that saw the Panthers hit just 1-of-17 from the floor.  Charlotte Renker's free throw with 9:40 left in the game sliced Mount Saint Mary's lead to three (26-23).  Playing with the lead for the final 28:45, Mount Saint Mary put the game away by scoring 14-straight points before Tori Bellings' trey ended the run to make it a 43-29 game with 4:20 showing on the fourth-quarter clock.  Down by 16 (45-29), Destiny Marino connected from 3-point land to spark a 9-0 Panther run as Tori Bellings drained six of those points to pull the Panthers within seven (45-38) with 50 seconds remaining.

Tori Bellings finished with 11 points to pace Old Westbury.  Joseph followed with 11 rebounds and two steals.  Brigid McNeill chipped in 11 rebounds and two blocks while Renker grabbed nine rebounds, swatted away two shots and nabbed two steals.

Rini led the way with game-high 19 points to go along with nine rebounds, three blocks and two steals for Mount Saint Mary.

In the end, Old Westbury hit on 18.2 percent (14-of-77) from the floor, 15.6 percent (5-of-32) from beyond the arc and 33.3 percent (5-of-15) from the charity stripe.  By comparison, Mount Saint Mary connected on 31.9 percent (15-of-47) from the floor, 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from 3-point range and 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the free-throw line.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 62-44, while scoring 17 second-chance points off 25 offensive rebounds.  The Knights scored 21 points off 22 Panther miscues and held the advantage in assists (11-8), blocks (7-5), steals (7-6) and bench points (12-8).  Old Westbury outscored Mount Saint Mary 18-14 in the paint as both teams were even in fastbreak points (4-4).
