Old Westbury hits the road Saturday (Feb. 10) for a Skyline Conference matchup versus College of Mount Saint Vincent

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury men's basketball fell behind early and were unable to recover in Tuesday's 86-61 Skyline Conference setback at home to the Yeshiva University Maccabees (12-9, 10-6 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.  Dating back to the 2001-02 season, Old Westbury (10-12, 9-8 Skyline) had won all 15 regular-season home matchups against Yeshiva.

Yancy Ulysse broke the scoring ice 1:31 in to give Old Westbury the early advantage (2-0).  Gabriel Leifer answered by scoring six points during Yeshiva's 11-0 spurt to go up 11-2 with 16:03 remaining.  Moments later, Simcha Halpert's 3-pointer pushed the Maccabee lead to double digits (14-4) at 14:58.  Halpert's triple ignited a 14-0 run as Old Westbury missed on all seven attempts from the floor during a stretch of 5:48 to go down by 21 points (25-4).  Following a pair of David Rodriguez free throws, Yeshiva scored 12-straight points to go up 37-6 with 7:18 left.  Old Westbury fell behind by 32 points (41-9) at 5:47 before using a 10-4 run to pull within 26 (45-19) with 3:30 left.  Yeshiva outscored Old Westbury 8-4 over the final 2:26 to take a 53-23 lead into intermission.

Halpert scored five-straight points to open the second half to build Yeshiva's lead to a game-high 35 points (58-23) with 17:28 remaining.  Alan McDonald scored 10 points to pull Old Westbury within 24 points (63-39) during a 16-3 run.  Trailing by 24 points (68-44), Old Westbury scored nine-straight points to cut the deficit to 15 (68-53) capped by a Ulysse free throw with 7:55 left.  Old Westbury's surge continued 57 seconds later as Terrin Roland's triple made it a 14-point game (70-56).  Yeshiva put the game away with a 16-3 run to build its lead back to 27 (86-59) with 1:54 showing on the second-half clock.

McDonald poured in a team-best 22 points (3-of-5 3FG, 5-of-6 FT) to pace Old Westbury.  Roland followed with 11 points and a game-high three steals while Ulysse pulled down six boards.  Rodriguez swatted two blocks off the bench.

Leifer totaled a game-high 32 points (12-of-16 FG), 11 rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks to lead Yeshiva to victory.  Halpert chipped in 16 points while Bar Alluf and Eli Mamann each netted 14.

In the end, Old Westbury hit on 30 percent (18-of-60) from the floor, 38.1 percent (8-of-21) from beyond the arc and 73.9 percent (17-of-23) from the charity stripe.  By comparison, Yeshiva connected on 51.9 percent (28-of-54) from the floor, 43.3 percent (13-of-30) from 3-point range and 85 percent (17-of-20) from the free-throw line.  Yeshiva won the boards battle, 41-32, while scoring eight second-chance points off five offensive rebounds.  Old Westbury scored 18 points off 17 Maccabee turnovers and held the edge in steals (8-6).  Yeshiva outplayed the Panthers in blocks (4-3), assists (22-11), points in the paint (30-16) and bench scoring (18-13).
