Handful of double-digit scorers pace @OW_Panthers Women’s Basketball to 82-64 Senior Day win versus St. Joseph’s (Brooklyn)

Old Westbury opens a three-game road trip Saturday (Feb. 10) with a Skyline Conference showdown against St. Joseph’s College (L.I.)

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's basketball closed out their regular-season home schedule Thursday evening with an 82-64 Skyline Conference Senior Day victory over the St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn) Bears (9-13, 7-8 Skyline) inside Clark Athletic Center.  With the win, Old Westbury (18-3, 12-3 Skyline) has now won its last eight games against St. Joseph's dating back to the 2014-15 season.  Prior to opening tip, seniors Joshlyn Grant (2016-18), Imani Lariosa (2014-18), Destiny Marino (2017-18) and Bridgid McNeill (2014-18) were honored with the annual senior day ceremony for their dedication to the program.

McNeill scored a transition layup 37 seconds in to give Old Westbury a 2-0 advantage.  Monique Joseph and Tori Bellings added to the Panther lead (6-0) before Kelly O'Donnell's layup put the Bears on the board with 7:42 left in the opening quarter.  Old Westbury went up by 10 with a 9-2 run from 6:09 to 2:56 to lead 17-7.  St. Joseph's outscored the Panthers 6-2 for the remainder of the period to cut its deficit to six (19-13).  The Panthers held St. Joseph's scoreless for a stretch of 5:13 to open second-quarter play while using a 9-0 spurt to stretch the lead to 13 (26-13).  Marino connected on a trio of triples in the stanza that grew Old Westbury's advantage to 17 (39-22) with 2:03 remaining.  St. Joseph's closed out the final 1:33 with seven-unanswered points to trail 39-29 at the break.  

St. Joseph's pulled within eight with 6:33 left in the third quarter before Old Westbury answered with a layup from Joseph 21 seconds later to go back up by 10 (46-36).  The Panthers led by double figures for a stretch of 5:22 before the Bears chipped away with an 8-1 run over the final 1:46 of the period to make it a 58-49 game.  Bellings, Marino and Joseph all dropped in layups to open the fourth quarter to give Old Westbury a 15-point lead (64-49) with 8:21 remaining.  Old Westbury played with a double-digit lead for the final 4:42 and extended its lead to a game-high 20 points (82-62) with 1:26 left.

One of five scorers in double figures for Old Westbury, Bellings finished with a career-high 19 points and dished out a game-leading nine assists.  Joseph totaled 19 points (9-of-17 FG), 12 rebounds, five assists and three steals to post her seventh double-double of the season (13th career).  Renker registered her 12th double-double of the season (23rd career) with 14 points and 15 rebounds.  Marino scored 11 points while McNeill recorded 11 points, career-best 15 rebounds (tied career-high with 10 offensive) and three blocks (tied career-high) to tally her sixth-career double-double.

O'Donnell finished with 17 points (7-of-8 FT), three steals and two blocks to pace St. Joseph's.  Victoria Porcasi chipped in with 15 points, five assists and two steals while Kelle O'Neill scored 11 points and nabbed a game-high four steals.

In the end, Old Westbury hit on 37.6 percent (32-of-85) from the field, 23.5 percent (4-of-7) from beyond the arc and 48.3 percent (14-of-29) from the charity stripe.  By comparison, St. Joseph's connected on 33.9 percent (21-of-62) from the floor, 35.5 percent (11-of-31) from 3-point range and 78.6 percent (11-of-14) from the free-throw line.  Old Westbury won the boards battle, 72-30, while scoring 23 second-chance points off 37 offensive rebounds.  The Panthers scored 17 points off 19 Bear turnovers and held the edge in assists (22-13), points in the paint (56-16) and fastbreak points (8-4).  St. Joseph's outplayed Old Westbury in bench scoring (14-8), blocks (10-9), and steals (11-9).

ST. JOSEPH'S COLLEGE (L.I.) GOLDEN EAGLES UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens a three-game road trip to close out the regular season Saturday (Feb. 10) against the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) Golden Eagles at 1 p.m. in Skyline Conference action from Danzi Center in Patchogue, New York.  The Panthers have won the last eight matchups versus the Golden Eagles dating back to the 2013-14 season.
