BRONX --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury softball opened the 2018 campaign Wednesday afternoon with 8-2 and 15-2 wins over the Lehman College Lightning (2-7) in non-conference road action from South Field in Bronx, New York.  Old Westbury (2-0) entered the day with 12-straight wins versus Lehman since 2008.

Game 1: Old Westbury 8, Lehman 2
The Panthers scored two unearned runs off Diamond Villegas (L, 1-2) in the first inning to grab the early lead.  Old Westbury advanced on back-to-back errors to start the game to score Nicole Baron (2-for-4, R) for the first run.  Lauren Bloom then scored on a passed ball to double Old Westbury's advantage, 2-0.

Bloom singled off Tiffnay Adames to lead off the third inning for the game's first hit.  Old Westbury took a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning as Samantha Arcese (1-for-4, 2 R) led off the frame with a solo home run for what proved to be the game-winning run.

Bloom (W, 1-0) tossed 3.1 innings of no-hit ball before Sam Torres' RBI double scored Caitlin Vernon (2-for-3, 2 R) to put Lehman on the board.

Jessica Livingston (2-for-4, R) sparked a three-run sixth inning with a RBI double to push Old Westbury's lead to five (6-1).

Baron settled the 8-2 final with a RBI single in the seventh inning to score Lauren London (0-for-2, 2 R, 2 BB).

Bloom fanned a career-high nine batters (one walk) and gave up two runs on four hits in a complete game effort.

Arcese (2-for-5, 4 RBI, R) kept the second inning alive with a two-out double to score Otilia Bernal and Bloom.  Fucci followed with a run-scoring single to stretch the lead to six (7-1).

Bloom's single in the fifth frame drove in two runs before Old Westbury secured the run-rule win with six runs in the sixth inning.  Arcese closed out the 15-2 final with a two-out ground rule double to score Bloom and Cariddi.

Fucci (W, 1-0) went the distance to earn Old Westbury's win.  In six innings of work, Fucci struck out seven batters while forfeiting two earned runs on four hits and two walks.

Lehman scored in the first with Vernon's RBI triple and in the second with Hailey Davila's RBI single.  Yaidee Nieves (L, 0-1) was handed the loss after giving up 15 runs (14 earned) on 17 hits and four walks in six innings.
