16-hit attack lifts @OW_Panthers Baseball past Plymouth State, 10-7

Old Westbury concludes Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic play Thursday (Mar. 22) against Plymouth State University

FORT MYERS, FL --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball used a season-best 16-hit attack Wednesday (Mar. 21) afternoon to record a 10-7 non-conference win over the Plymouth State University Panthers (5-2) at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic from Lee County Player Development Complex No. 3 in Fort Myers, Florida.

After drawing a walk, Liam Slattery (0-for-1, 2 R, 4 BB, 2 SB) stole second and scored as back-to-back errors gave Old Westbury (5-4-1) the early first-inning lead.  John Condon (3-for-5, 4 RBI, R) doubled Old Westbury's advantage with a RBI single to plate home John Fogarty for the 2-0 advantage on Plymouth State starter Marc Phinney (L, 0-1, 3 IP, 7 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 2 BB, K). 

Plymouth State answered with an unearned run in the first frame and tied the game in the second off Old Westbury starter Jason Espinal (W, 1-0, 5 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K).

Condon and David Hawley (2-for-5) each produced two-run doubles in the third and fifth innings, respectively, to make it a 6-2 game. 

Old Westbury then scored four runs on four hits and one error during a sixth inning that saw Condon single home Fogarty and score the game-winning run three batters later for the 8-2 lead.  Dom Kriegel laced a two-out double to score Peter Capel (2-for-5, BB) and Dean Sheridan (3-for-4, 2 R, BB) to build an eight-run lead.

Plymouth State scored single runs in innings six through eight before settling the 10-7 final with Ben Curry's two-run single off reliever Alipio Tiburcio.  Joshua Cruz took over to record the final three outs to lock down his second save of the season.
