Offense shines in 9-3 @OW_Panthers Baseball victory over Plymouth State

Old Westbury opens Skyline Conference play at home Saturday (Mar. 24) against Mount Saint Mary College

FORT MYERS, FL --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball produced 11 hits Thursday morning in a 9-3 non-conference win over the Plymouth State University Panthers (5-3) from Terry Park Sports Complex No. 3 in Fort Myers, Florida.  Old Westbury (6-4-1) concluded play at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic (Mar. 17-22) with a 3-4 record.

Old Westbury jumped on Plymouth State starter Kyle McCarthy (L, 0-1, 4 IP, 6 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 3 BB, 3 K) in the second inning with five runs on five hits to seal the win.  Dom Kriegel (1-for-4, 2 R) stroked a two-out single to left field to score Peter Capel and Mike Manetta (2-for-4, 2 R) for the early lead. Three batters later, Liam Slattery (1-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 BB) drew a bases loaded walk to stretch the lead to three.  John Fogarty (3-for-5, 3 RBI) then belted a two-run double to right center that scored David Hawley (0-for-2, BB, 3 R) and Jesse Russo, with Hawley counting as the game-winning run.

Hawley capitalized on a throwing error by shortstop Geoff Kayo in the fourth frame to build Old Westbury's advantage to six.

Slattery added to the lead in the fifth inning with a two-run single before Fogarty's RBI single made it a 9-0 game.
Old Westbury starter Ryan Dunbar (W, 1-1, 9 H, 6 BB, 3 K) scattered six hits through six scoreless innings before surrendering three runs (two earned) on three hits and three walks in the seventh to settle the 9-3 final.

Vinny Trovato recorded the final five outs to preserve Dunbar's first-career win.

MOUNT SAINT MARY COLLEGE KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens Skyline Conference play Saturday (Mar. 24) at home against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (3-4) at 12 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.
