@OW_Panthers Baseball closes out road trip at Vassar

Old Westbury opens its home schedule Thursday (Mar. 29) with a non-conference matchup against New Jersey City University

POUGHKEEPSIE, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball concluded their 14-game road trip Wednesday afternoon with a 10-4 non-conference setback to the Vassar College Brewers (3-5) from Prentiss Field in Poughkeepsie, New York.  Old Westbury (7-6-1) had won its previous matchup in 2016 with Vassar.  

Old Westbury scored twice on Vassar starter Mitchell Mullock (ND, 4 IP, 2 R, 6 H, 2 K) in the first inning.  After leading off with a single and advancing to third on double by Liam Slattery (3-for-4, 2 R), Jesse Russo (2-for-5) advanced home on a John Fogarty ground out to take the early 1-0 lead.  Slattery then doubled Old Westbury's advantage by scoring on a John Condon (2-for-4, 3 RBI) grounder to third.

Panther starter Christian Tessitore (ND, 2 IP, R, 4 H, 2 K) gave up a second inning RBI single to Jake Doyle to put Vassar on the board, 2-1.  

The Brewers pulled ahead in the third inning with a pair of run-scoring extra base hits off reliever Ryan Dunbar (L, 1-2, 2 IP, 5 R, 6 H, 2 BB, K) for the 3-2 lead.  

Old Westbury responded in the fifth with Condon's two-run single to center field to score David Hawley and Slattery to go up 4-3.  

Vassar took control in the fifth by putting up five runs on six hits and two walks off Dunbar and Alipio Tiburcio to make it an 8-4 game.  

The Brewers tacked on a pair of runs in the seventh off reliever CJ Pasqueralli to settle the 10-4 final.

Logan Willans (W, 1-0, 3 H, BB, 2 K) tossed 3.1 scoreless relief innings to earn Vassar's win.

NEW JERSEY CITY UNIVERSITY GOTHIC KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury opens its home schedule Thursday (Mar. 29) in a non-conference matchup against the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (7-4) at 4 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers are winless (0-5) versus New Jersey City since 2013.
