OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball opened their home schedule Thursday afternoon with a 10-5 non-conference loss to the New Jersey City University Gothic Knights (8-4) from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. Old Westbury (7-7-1) entered the day winless in its last five games versus New Jersey City since 2013.

New Jersey City jumped ahead in the second inning with a two-out RBI single by Jan Castellano (2-for-4, RBI, BB) off Panther starter Jason Espinal (ND, 4 IP, 3 R, 4 H, 2 BB, 3 K) for the 1-0 lead.

The Gothic Knights doubled their advantage in the third with a Bill Feehan (1-for-4, 2 R, RBI, BB) RBI single to build a two-run cushion.

Old Westbury answered in the fourth with four-straight hits to score three runs off Gothic Knight starter Anthony Zicaro (W, 1-1, 5 R, 12 H, 1 HBP, 4 K). John Fogarty (2-for-4, R, 2 RBI) singled home Jesse Russo (2-for-5, 2 R, RBI) and Liam Slattery (2-for-5, R, RBI) to break the Panthers' scoring ice. John Condon (3-for-3, RBI, 2 doubles) followed with a RBI double to score Fogarty to give Old Westbury a 3-2 lead.

New Jersey City replied with a four-run fifth inning off Espinal and reliever William Amendola (L, 0-1, 0.2 IP, 3 R, BB, 3 H) to go up 6-3.

The Gothic Knights tacked on one run in the sixth and three more in the seventh to grab a 10-3 lead.

Old Westbury used a two-out rally to score two runs to slice the deficit to five. Russo's RBI double plated home David Hawley before scoring on a single by Slattery to settle the 10-5 final.

Dean Sheridan and Hawley both singled in the ninth inning to end Zicaro's outing. Gothic Knight reliever Mike Ramirez escaped out of the jam by retiring two batters to preserve the win.

MOUNT SAINT MARY COLLEGE KNIGHTS UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury (1-1 Skyline) remains at home Monday (Apr. 2) for a Skyline Conference doubleheader against the Mount Saint Mary College Knights (7-5, 2-0 Skyline) at 4 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex. The Panthers have won eight of their last 11 matchups against the Knights dating back to the 2013 campaign.
