@OW_Panthers Baseball concludes seven-game road trip at Lehman

Old Westbury returns home Wednesday (Apr. 11) to take on Stevens Institute of Technology

BRONX --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball fell behind early and were unable to recover Tuesday afternoon to drop a 12-5 non-conference road decision to the Lehman College Lightning (11-13) from South Field in Bronx.  Old Westbury (9-12-1) had won its previous 13 matchups against Lehman dating back to 2007.

Lehman posted five runs in the first inning to end Panther starter John Hill's (L, 0-2: 5 R, 4 BB) outing after retiring two batters.

The Lightning scored four more runs in the second frame off reliever Vinny Trovato (5.1 IP, 9 H, 5 R, 2 BB, 2K) to grow their lead to nine.

Old Westbury answered with a three-run fifth inning.  Jesse Russo extended his hitting streak to nine games by putting Old Westbury on the board with his third-career home run.  Peter Capel then doubled home Liam Slattery (3-for-5, 2 R) before Mike Manetta (3-for-4) lifted a sacrifice fly to score John Condon (1-for-2, 3 BB) to make it a 9-3 game on Lehman starter Jarret Oehler (W, 3-4: 6 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 3 BB, 12 K).

Condon sliced the deficit to five (9-5) in the seventh with a RBI single that scored Slattery.

Trailing 12-4 in the ninth inning, Tyler Roberts settled the 12-5 final with a run-scoring single that drove in Capel.  Jonathan Rogers pitched three innings to nail down his first save of the season.

STEVENS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns home Wednesday (Apr. 11) for a 5 p.m. non-conference showdown versus the Stevens Institute of Technology Ducks (16-12) from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Since 2010, Old Westbury is 1-2 at home against Stevens.
