OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury erased a four-goal halftime deficit Tuesday afternoon to come away with a convincing 21-16 Skyline Conference home win over the Maritime College Privateers (2-7, 0-4 Skyline) from Panther Park. Old Westbury (2-8, 1-1 Skyline) has now won four-straight games versus Maritime to improve its all-time series record to 4-2.
Natasha Treuman broke the scoring ice 21 seconds in to give Old Westbury the early advantage. After Krista Deleva tied the game 1:13 later,
Rachel Phillips,
Taylor Guarneri and
Danielle Weir answered to push Old Westbury's lead to three (4-1). Maritime went on a 6-0 run as Catherine Pfundstein scored three-straight goals to give the visitors a 7-4 lead. Treuman's goal with 5:26 left sliced Old Westbury's deficit to two (7-5) before the Privateers closed out the final 5:17 with a 3-1 scoring edge to lead 10-6 at intermission.
Old Westbury dominated second-half play by outscoring Maritime by nine (15-6). Treuman opened the stanza with her 25th-career hat trick at 26:37 to make it a three-score game (10-7).
Cameron Isnardi's goal with 24 minutes left ignited a game-changing run that saw Old Westbury score seven-straight goals during a span of 6:24 to lead 15-11. After both team traded goals,
Yaritza Caraballo found Treuman with 13:25 showing on the clock for her fourth-career game-winning goal to make it a 17-14 game. Treuman scored two more goals down the stretch to settle the 21-16 final.
Treuman tied her single-game program record with 11 points and 10 goals. She also contributed five draw controls, four caused turnovers and three ground balls. Phillips followed with a career-high six goals to go with two assists while Weir chipped in with a career-best eight draw controls. Caraballo added a career-high three assists.
Ashley Gugliuzzo (2-8) turned away 20 shots to set Old Westbury's single-game record.
Pfundstein scored six goals to pace Maritime. Sara Wright controlled a game-high 14 draws as Shannon Brady (0-2) stopped nine saves in defeat.
