@OW_Panthers Women’s Lacrosse opens Skyline road slate at USMMA

Old Westbury remains on the road Wednesday (Apr. 18) for a Skyline Conference showdown with Purchase College

KINGS POINT, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury women's lacrosse were unable to overcome a 10-goal halftime deficit Saturday afternoon as the Panthers dropped their Skyline Conference road opener, 19-7, to the United States Merchant Marine Academy Mariners (8-2, 3-0 Skyline) from Brooks Stadium and Captain James Harvey Tomb Field in Kings Point New York.  Old Westbury (2-9, 1-2 Skyline) is now 4-2 all time versus USMMA.

Halle Johnson finished a feed from LaChaye Allen to break the scoring ice 1:14 in to give Old Westbury its lone lead of the game.  The Mariners answered with a 13-2 run over the final 28:13 to put the game away. Danielle Weir scored Old Westbury's second and third goals of the period to send a 13-3 game into intermission.

Old Westbury used a 4-1 run over a stretch of 5:51 to make it a 15-7 game with 20:25 showing on the second-half clock.  USMMA scored four-unanswered goals over the final 16:32 to settle the 19-7 final.

Weir finished with three goals to go along with five ground balls and five draw controls.  Johnson and Natasha Treuman each scored twice while Cameron Isnardi controlled five draws and scooped up five ground balls.  Ashley Gugliuzzo (2-9) made 11 saves in defeat for Old Westbury.

Meredith Willard scored six goals and totaled three assists to pace the Mariners.  Hannah Gizzi turned away five shots to secure USMMA's victory.

PURCHASE COLLEGE PANTHERS UP NEXT FOR OLD WESTBURY: Old Westbury remains on the road Wednesday (Apr. 18) for a Skyline Conference showdown against the Purchase College Panthers (7-2, 2-2 Skyline) at 7 p.m. in Purchase, New York.  Old Westbury has won its last two matchups versus Purchase to draw a 3-3 all-time series record.
