Russo extends hitting streak in @OW_Panthers Baseball road play at Ramapo

Old Westbury returns home Friday (Apr. 20) for a non-conference matchup against Lehman College

MAHWAH, NJ --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball faced a 5-0 non-conference road setback Wednesday afternoon against the Ramapo College Roadrunners (20-11) Wednesday afternoon from Jeff Maund Memorial Field in Mahwah, New Jersey.  Old Westbury (12-13-1) is now 1-3 versus Ramapo since 2014.

Old Westbury threatened in the second, third and fifth innings by advancing runners to third, but were unable to capitalize on Ramapo starter Nick Recarte (W, 3-1: 8 IP, 6 H, 3 BB, 5 K).

Panther starter Jonathan Espinal (L, 1-2: 5.1 IP, 4 H, 4 R, 3 ER, 3 BB, 2 K) scattered one single and walked two batters before issuing a pair of fifth-inning wild pitches that scored Bobby Shannon for the game-winning run.

Ramapo doubled its advantage in the sixth with a single by Austin Unglaub to score Matt Chemis for the 2-0 lead on Espinal.  Three batters later, Connor Walsh made it a 4-0 game with a two-run single.

The Roadrunners stretched their lead to five in the eighth inning with an unearned run on reliever Joshua Cruz.

Jesse Russo (1-for-5) used a two-out single in the ninth inning off reliever Greg Westhelle to extend his hitting streak to 13 games.

Liam Slattery (2-for-4, BB, SB) and Shaun Kaminsky (2-for-4, SB) produced multi-hit games for Old Westbury.

LEHMAN COLLEGE LIGHTNING UP NEXT FOR THE PANTHERS: Old Westbury returns to campus Friday (Apr. 20) for a non-conference matchup versus the Lehman College Lightning at 2 p.m. from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  The Panthers are 13-1 against Lehman since 2007.
