@OW_Panthers Baseball tops Yeshiva for Senior Day/Special Olympics Day sweep

Old Westbury opens a four-game Skyline Conference road trip Tuesday (Apr. 24) at St. Joseph’s College (Brooklyn)

OLD WESTBURY, NY --- (www.OLDWESTBURYPANTHERS.com) SUNY Old Westbury baseball collected 13-1 and 15-2 Skyline Conference wins Sunday afternoon over the Yeshiva University Maccabees (3-20, 0-16 Skyline) on Senior Day/Special Olympics Day from Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex.  Old Westbury (17-13-1, 9-5 Skyline) is now 22-0 versus Yeshiva dating back to 2008.  Prior to opening pitch, seniors David Hawley (2017-18), Christian Ramkissoon (2017-18), Tyler Roberts (2015-18), Jesse Russo (2016-18), Dean Sheridan (2015-18) and Liam Slattery (2017-18) were honored for their dedication to Old Westbury Athletics.

Game 1 (7 Inn.): Old Westbury 13, Yeshiva 1
Old Westbury batted around the order in the opening frame to score five runs on three hits off Yeshiva starter Yosef Rosenfield (L, 0-3: 6 IP, 12 H, 13 R, 9 ER, 3 BB).  Russo (2-for-5, R, SB) hit a leadoff single and scored two batters later on a RBI double by John Fogarty (2-for-3, 2 R) for Old Westbury's 1-0 lead.  John Condon (1-for-2, 2 RBI, R) and Sheridan (1-for-1, 3 RBI, 2 R, BB, 2 SB) both added sacrifice hits to make it a three-run game.  Following Roberts' single, three-straight errors by second baseman Shmuel Silverstein allowed two unearned runs to score.

The Panthers scored two in the third as a double steal advanced Sheridan home before Hawley doubled in Mike Manetta to stretch the lead to seven.

Working with a seven-run lead in the fourth inning, Panther starter John Hill (W, 1-2: 4 H, R, 2 BB, 4 K) allowed a RBI single to Zachary Baly to score Mordechai Cohen for Yeshiva's lone run.

Old Westbury answered with four runs in the bottom of the frame on four singles and two runs to go up 11-1.

The Panthers added a pair of unearned runs in the sixth capped by Nic Labiento's RBI single to score Roberts (2-for-4, 2 R) to settle the 13-1 final.

Reliever CJ Pasqueralli fanned three batters and allowed one hit in two innings of work to preserve Old Westbury's win.

Game 2: Old Westbury 15, Yeshiva 2
The Panthers jumped ahead in the first inning by scoring five runs ignited by Fogarty's RBI double that scored Slattery (1-for-2, 2 R, RBI, BB, SB).  Fogarty (3-for-4, 3 R, 2 RBI) then advanced home on a RBI double by Condon to double Old Westbury's advantage.  Two batters later, Sheridan (3-for-3, 3 R, 2 RBI) doubled home Condon followed by a Manetta (2-for-2, 3 RBI, R, BB) two-run single to make it a 5-0 game on Cohen (L, 1-5: 1.2 IP, 10 H, 12 R, 3 BB, K).

Old Westbury had 12 plate appearances during a seven-run second inning to end Cohen's outing.

Panther starter Vinny Trovato (W, 1-0: 5 IP, 4 H, 2 R, BB, 6 K) surrendered Yeshiva's first run in the third on a Jordan Shafron RBI double and a sacrifice fly that scored Josh Fogel in the fourth.

Manetta capped a two-run third inning with a two-out RBI double to score Sheridan for Old Westbury's 14-1 lead.

Dom Kriegel scored the game's final run in the fifth inning on a fielding error by second baseman Richie Ayal.

William Amendola scattered one hit and fanned three in two scoreless innings in relief of Trovato to secure Old Westbury's sweep.
